Magazines and Newspapers

Which ones do you buy, read, avoid or boycott?

I buy Private Eye, Viz (sometimes), Inside Soap (for the kids), Q (still haven't got round to cancelling the subcription) and Take A Break (sometimes).

I avoid Heat etc as they don't interest me anymore. If I want a celebrity fix I buy the National Enquirer - no English z-list celebs in it.....

I avoid OK magazine - I think they crossed the line printing a Jade Goody tribute edition before she was actually dead and printing photos of a dead/dying Michael Jackson on their front page. I also hate the way they have misleading headings on their front page.

I don't buy any daily paper, or read any. On a Sunday I sometimes read the Star at lunch if my colleague has bought a copy.

I avoid the Mail and the Express.

I boycott The Sun after their The Truth front page and the fact they apologised but still had Kelvin McKenzie on their payroll until a couple of months ago when he jumped ship, even after he stated a couple of years ago they he stood by what was printed and that he wasn't sorry then and he wasn't sorry now.

I have ModelRail on subscription but that's about it. For news I just visit the BBC website.

I don't buy or read any daily papers. On a weekly basis I'll usually buy a womens mag, usually Grazia, Company, Glamour etc. Then perhaps once a month I'll treat myself to a craft or home magazine, but they are about £4-£5 and always have a free gift, so I only buy if the gift is something I'd use.

I don't tend to buy mags anymore but if on a Saturday I'm up town and buy some trash to read, I go for exactly that, the trashy mags. Now, Heat, used to get Ok but they are really bad at twisting the headline to make it sound juicy and it actually has no relevance to the story. I read The Sun too. For what it's worth just because I read these types of mags doesn't mean it's a cause to look down on someone. I'm an intelligent girl- I just happen to enjoy reading about celebs, fashion etc.

I only buy magazines if I'm going on a long train or plane journey and it's almost always real life magazines - I'm pulled in by the "My Sister ate my dog" / "My Mum is really my brother!!" type headlines.

If i know ive got a long journey coming up or a particualrily long spell of time waiting (hosp app, hair etc) il buy a trashy 'my mums sleeping with her brother' type mag to pass the time. Occasionally il buy Glamour. For news i generally read the BBC Website unless Mr F buys a newspaper(for a voucher for football tickets generally)

I've still not got round to picking a newspaper yet!

As for Magazines, I have recently subscribed to The New Humanist after reading a few articles online that I enjoyed. I used to buy Closer, New, Heat etc but haven't done in a while. I quite like Grazia though for the fashion.

I don't buy either on a regular basis. If I am going to an appointment or on a long journey I will buy a trashy 'real life' mag i.e. Chat or Take a Break. I don't buy the celebrity magazines purely because I don' know who half of the 'celebs' actually are.

H buys The Sun, but he only reads the sports.

I subscribe to Cosmopolitan, Glamour and Perfect Wedding. I'll buy the odd other wedding magazine, but they're all becoming a bit the same now. I also have a gift subscription to Good Food magazine.

If I happen to pop to the shops on a Sunday, I'll buy Pick Me Up or the like to read in the bath.

I want to cancel all my subscriptions (only signed up for the free gift!) but I keep forgetting to get the details when the magazine comes each month.

I used to read a few trashy mags as a young'un but soon realised that this was more out of habit than interest, so now I don't buy any.

I bought a few copies of Wedding ideas before I discovered Hitched and saved myself some money!

Don't really buy papers, will read the Mirror while waiting for my Chinese in the takeaway but that is only to pass the time!

Read BBC news on my phone.

Am considering subscribing to Grand Designs as that is the next big thing on my life agenda!

Due to the fact I have never watched Made in Chelsea, TOWIE, the new series of BB and I don't follow any boy bands, last time I picked up a gossip mag I had no idea who half the people were, so I haven't bothered again since.

The only one I regularly buy is the telepapers!

Sometimes I'll buy a craft magazine, but rarely any glossy ones like Heat/Ok.

When I was in my late teens, I bought More religiously. But then they got rid of the fun stuff so I stopped buying it!

We tend to get most of our news online, save for Mr CB who'll read the Metro and The Evening Standard on his commute (i have a flick through the Standard when he gets in).

If I buy a magazine it's either something like Vogue (for the pretty pictures) or Elle Decoration. We also receive The Cricketer magazine as our friend is the editor. We also subscribe to a couple of professional periodicals/magazines as well as a homebuying guide.

When we get the Sunday papers we normally buy an armful - Independent, Guardian, Times etc.

The Times at the weekend & occasionally buy Heat. I used to subscribe to the Good Food magazine. Want to start this again next year. My friend writes for the Sunday Times mag so always nice to see where she's been.

My mum works at a hospital so she gets me all sorts when they clear out the waiting rooms at the end of each week - generally all the house/decorating/gardening ones so I can dream of the day when I'llfinally get around to making my house look like that.

Other than that, London Evening Standard on the commute home, Wedding Ideas or Wedding magazine every now and again (can't resist!!) and the Times every now and again.

I really want to get into one of the more commentary based things like Private Eye or the like, but don't know which are good.

I don't buy any magazines. I hate the celeb gossip and comparing that goes on. I find looking at perfect images of photoshopped women quite depressing. Can't beat bbc.co.uk for proper news!!

H buys me New mag every Tuesday, I buy Glamour, have subscibed to fourfour two for H for xmas and occasionally some nan ones (my mum married my dog etc) We read the papers on line.

Would never dream of buying the Sun or anything to do with the Sun(news of the world when it was still going) and most newsagents in Liverpool dont even sell it, you would be hard pushed to find a copy outside of the student areas/train stations WH Smith etc.
