Maggie Sottero Question

Serafina, 16 April, 2009 at 10:58 Posted on Planning 0 11

Hello,

I know a lot of you ladies are keen on your Maggie Sottero dresses and my current favourite two are both Maggies (Coco and Sara). I've tried both on in the shop and they felt lovely but I was pinned into them as both samples were a fair bit too big.

However, yesterday I had the chance to try on a Maggie (coco) that was more like the actual size I would order and I was surprised how tiny it was and how restrictive! I couldnt take a full breath when it was laced and felt a bit faint just wearing it and standing still, yet alone having it on for a full wedding day. I thought this might be because the dress was too small (US2 when Id need US 4/6 I think) but the girl who owned it said that she couldnt eat or sit down throughout her whole wedding day and felt very restricted too!

Im now in a dilemma because I love the Maggie dresses in that 'slim A-line' style but I want to be able to enjoy my wedding day and eat! I don't want to order the dress and then be upset that it feel too tight. Can any other brides with similar dresses reassure me it will be ok??

Thanks!

The girl who owned it is mad in my opinion! I think its stupid that she's telling you that you have to feel uncomfortable in the dress if you want it!!

You're going to be wearing it all day, and if you were feeling ill after wearing it in the shop, get the bigger size!? Maybe see if theres another supplier you can try it on with as I think I'd have walked out if I'd had that comment made!

I had a Maggie dress when i got married. they are very tight when laced up, but give you a great figure. I had mine tightly laced for the actual ceremony, but had it loosened a bit so i could sit down comfortably, and then tightened again for all the walking about i did in the evening, and the photographs. It sounds a faff but its not, my mum did it for me, only takes 5 mins.

It felt fine in the shop, but that was a sample that was too big and was pinned at the back. The one that felt terrible was a private seller and she said that she sample also felt fine on her but when the real dress arrived, in her real size, it felt incredibly tight. Im too scared to order mine now from a shop in case it arrives tight too!

Maggie Brides- with your corset back done up, could you take deep breaths?! I couldn't in the small dress and felt like one of those victorian ladies who pass out from their corset beng too tight and need to be revivied with smelling salts!

    Hi serafina

i tried on 2 maggie dresses in a bridal shop and when she first laced them up i felt like you did very restricted and not comfy so i mentioned it and she loosened off the lacing which still didnt detract from the fab slimming effect the gown gave me and it was fine, i felt pulled in but securely so not so that i was uncomfy i would think as long as the dress you choose is a corset back you could wear it as tight or as loose as you want hth x

    Hi,

I have a maggie dress. When I Stand up it is not uncomfortable at all and definitely makes my wiast look thinner.

When I am sat down it does feel tight but I can still take a deep breath. I don't think the tightness is uncomfortable but I haven't sat down in it for a long period of time. The longest I will be sitting down for in it is about 20 mins in the car.

I think the dress has either been done up too tightly or it is too small for you. I would try another dress on somewhere else.

I'm having a Maggie and when I tried the sample on in the shop they had to have two people holding it in at the back as it was 6 sizes too big! I literally had to hold it up at the front so I'm praying that when mine comes in it's okay.

I wouldn't say I felt restricted when they held it in, I think "supported" would be a better word. It's so difficult to imagine how it's going to fit and look when you finally get to try on the proper size but I would say that if you maybe have it tied a little looser at the back it shouldn't affect the overall look.

My dress is by Raylia who was a sister co of Maggie S so the same corsets.

My dress does feel very tight I have to admit but that was when I was half a stone heavier so I'm hoping when I go for my fitting tomorrow I will feel more comfortable in it now I'm a bit smaller.

Back come tomorrow for an update on how it feels on!

I think it will feel more restricted due to the weight of it but I'll get used to that after having it for for half an hour or so I think (I hope anyway).

Hi! I've got Coco for my dress. I've tried it on laced up a few times & it is tight, but its fine to sit down in and walk around. I can feel the dress holding me in, but it doesn't feel too tight to breathe or anything. So I'd say go for it! I love coco, but then I'm biased xxxx

    Just a quick update-

I bought 'Coco' but got a brand new one from the shop. She measured me at a US 6 so this should feel a lot more comfortable than the second-hand size 2 I tried on before!

I forgot to try to sit down in it though! I'm not sure it would have been possible in the sample anyway though as there were so many pins in the back!

Oh wah. I'm too late. I have the Sara dress, it's lovely and as it's chiffon it's more flowy and not so restrictive, even when the back is done up tightly.

Coco is a lovely dress though. Good choice!

Sara is lovely too. I liked both dresses equally but decided to go for Coco in the end because it was slightly cheaper and the sample was in the colour I wanted (rather than the Sara sample which was white).

I'm still panicing about sitting down though. I have a horse and carriage ride, a rowing boat trip and a sit-down meal during my wedding. I have visions of having to lie-down in the rowing boat so as to avoid splitting my dress! ?

I wore a maggie (Porsha Lynette) on the day and I can honestly say that I did not think about the corset at all.

I think in the dress shop, they do lace you up quite tightly because I remember sitting down in the shop and feeling as though I would not be able to move - they do it every day and are not 'scared' of the dresses!

My mum and SIL laced me into the dress and so it was def not as tight as the dress shop. I think they were probably not as 'rough' with the dress as they could have been. I did not need it loosened or done up at all during the day.

You will look great and feel fanstastic. Promise!
