MAJOR dress wobble with *FLASH* to show you exactly what I mean :-/ :-(

bringon2010, 23 March, 2010 at 10:06 Posted on Planning 0 13

OK ladies... just 7 weeks to go and not been for a final dress fitting - I'm having one fitting - THAT'S IT - and that's back home in Ireland at the end of April (I currently live in Scotland)... 2 weeks before the wedding itself...

Currently - the dress is about 4 inches too long and needs taken up (I have this picture of me trying on the shop sample).... It's MASSIVE - I love a good dance and I'm not sure I'll be able to get much grooving done with the excess material I'll be carrying! It IS a beautiful dress and I REALLY love it, but have major concerns as to how practical it will be in the evening...

Should I ask the dress maker to take off some of the length - I dont fancy "carrying it over my arm all night..... HELP - any suggestions???

Cant you decide when you go to your fitting whether or not you are going to need any length off ??

Why not buy 2 pairs of shoes - a high pair incase the dress it too long and you dont have time to have it taken up and a normal pair for if the dress isnt too long.

you cant tell from the photo if the dress will need taking up because its the sample and its obviously far too big

The person doing your alterations will be able to put a bustle into the train to take it out of the way for your evening dancing. Ask about this when you are in.

Not sure if this helps with your wobbles??? Does it???

    Dress is lovely BTW

I have the two pairs of shoes covered :-) a wee flat pair and a higher pair....

It's just I don't fancy having to loop the train over my arm when I'm dancing..... maybe I could pit it up and under in the evening.... will really need to speak to the dressmaker I suppose :-) x

I hooked my train up and under for the evening so no long train or having to carry it! Don't worry, I'm sure they'll be able to do something for you, I bet you're not the first customer who's asked them this!

Dress looks beautiful by the way!

Thats a lovely dress. As the others have said a bustle is the way forward, they put a bit in so you can tie the train up for the evening and dont have to carry it.

I love the dress- the top is amazing. As others have said I am having a little hook in mine so I can pin the train up for the evening x

Gorgeous detailing on the bodice, so elegant! I hope the dressmakers can sort out the length for you, I'm sure they'll be able to.

Bustle all the way, perfect solution. I had one it was was great. Most people get one added and I'm surprised the shop didn't mention this to you. It's just a ribbon or button stitched under the dress, ribbons are better because I've heard that buttons can snap. x

Another vote for a bustle. I am having one made to the back of my dress as my skirt is massive. Couldn't be doing with it dragging behind me all night.

The dress shop that I got my dress from could make bustles for all their dresses, so I'm sure your's will be able to sort it for you.

My train isnt as long as yours but I have had a button put on the dress for it to be hooked up so I can boogie too, a little tip to also carry a safety pin too for when the photographer has finished and you are really getting down on the dance floor as the button may not be strong enough on its own to hold it all night.

Wow what a pretty dress... my mum had a loop of 'pearls' sewn onto the back of my dress which hooked onto a button of my dress.... it was ideal for the dancing and stayed the same length as my hem.....
