Make up and hair prices?

1Lucie, 31 May, 2010 at 10:37 Posted on Planning 0 10

I have been doing some research into make up and hair. I have found things to be very pricey!!! I am in Cambridgeshire and a mobile bridal hairdresser is approx £120 (including trial and consultation) and make up a similar price.

I am particularly keen to have a hair 'put up' specific hairdresser as i have many friends who have had my local hairdresser and their hair has hardly stayed in for duration of service. I am also keen to have a proper make up artist rather then a beutition who does make up. For the fact that i have very bad acne plus scars that has taken me years to get under semi control, i have to use specific expensive make up ( i cannot use cheaper make up) to prevent breakouts. I will seriously look like a pizza on honeymoon otherwise!

Are this prices anything like anyone elses quotes? Cheap or expensive?

I think these are pretty standard on the lower scale! There are a lot more expensive hair and makeup out there, but I live in London so it's probably more expensive

I think a makeup artist is important if you can afford it. There are loads of amazing ones out there. I know a herts based one who Im sure comes out to cambridgeshire of you want a recommendation x

Yes, they sound on the lower scale, 1Lucie! I am in Leeds, West Yorkshire and got quoted a lot more by many, especially the make up artists!

I have been a makeup artist for over 10 years and have worked on 600+ brides.

I charge £70 practice and £70 on the wedding day for a bride, £50 practice and £50 otd day for bridal party and £55 for anyone without a prior trial.

So the charges you have been quoted seem quite standard.

You do pay more for experience but then if someone is experienced you will know you are in safe hands and that they should have a good quality kit.

I'm based in london and hair and makeup is £250, and only makeup is £160. yours is £240 for both? might be a little bit higher than i would expect outside london but probably not outside the normal range. i would say don't try and save money on this - as you say, you need extra care and want the hair to look good etc, and would definitely spend extra to make sure i look fab on the day and in pics x

Sorry to hijack this thread but Julie - I have just been on your website and I think I found THE ONE! The one I'd trust to make me look beautiful on the day! My only question is... would you travel to Leeds or is it too far?

What a lovely thing to say! Have answered your email - unfortunately you are just too far from me - the travel fees would work out as extortionate!

I couldnt believe how expensive mobile people can be, the one i am thinking of using charges £45 each for hair trial, makeup trial, and on the day, so £180 in total, i thought that was a lot and i know if i told my mum she would shout at me for wasting money, lol, but she has no idea about what things really cost. good to know though that this is a normal price, and if anything actually quite cheap.

I've been quoted £180 for hair & make-up and I thought it was expensive ? That includes one trial of each (about 3 hours in total).
