Make up artist vs diy

bremangs, 24 June, 2013 at 18:27 Posted on Planning 0 8

Hi ladies,

I am having a major dilemma about whether or not to do my own make up for my wedding in December. I've had my make up done by mac and bobbi brown and bought their products which I haven't been happy with. The bobbi brown make up makes me look shiny which isn't the look I want for my pictures. I hated having my make up done but at the same time I feel I'm gonna make a complete mess if left to my own devices. I could try another brand but at the risk of spending more money. I have black skin and find that the foundation is either too light or too dark.

HELP!!

Definitely, definitely go professional. A good make-up artist will make you look like you, but the most fabulous, flawless version of you, and one that will last all day and all night. Crucial for me.

Where abouts are you in the UK?

My recommendation would be to speak to some local make up artist, many will mix foundations for black skin meaning that you get the right shade for your skin, they will also know how make up needs to be done best for photographs etc. Speak to a few and get their honest opinions and ideas

I would definitely go professional. Although it's no doubt going to cost more than doing it yourself, by the time you've tried another brand you'll nearly have spent as much. Plus, if you're at all worried about applying it on the day, you'll end up a nervous wreck! For me, I want to look as photogenic as possible on the day (as I'm spending allot of money on a TOG), so for me it's a good investment.

My daughter had a professional make up artist. I thought it was an extravagance and waste of money..... until I saw her. She'd had facial waxing (in her wisdom ) a couple of days before the wedding and looked like she'd got the pox, but the MUA covered it up and she looked absolutely perfect and beautiful. She still looked perfect at the end of the night too. I vote make up artist all the way.

I want a make up artist mainly because I have bad skin (acne) and want the best possible makeup to cover that up just for one day. I think it takes away some stress because if you DIY you are more likely to want to keep checking up on it throughout the day. The way I see it it's better to spend the extra money and have peace of mind that you look perfect Smiley smile

Make up artist! I would also try and find one who does airbrush makeup (the spray on foundation) it's super light but is water/rub/cry/sweat proof.

I know of plenty of people, and seen pics on here of where people have done makeup themselves and 9/10 times it looks amazing.

The question is, are you confident with it, do you regually do your own makeup to this extent?

For me, it was a nobrainer. I barely wear any makeup day to day and am crap at it!!

Best money spent for sure, I amazed myself at how beautiful I looked!!!
