MAKE UP - Do it yourself or make up artist??

lady_chicken2, 13 January, 2013 at 20:37 Posted on Planning 0 8

Not sure if i should use the £70 a make up artist would cost and buy myself some good quality make up or pay the £70 and have a pro do it for me?

If i do it myself i know itll look how i want and as long as i get some good quality make up i know it will last but then if i pay a pro youre almost guranteed that itll look amazing and last the day.

What does everybody else think?? xx

If you can afford, definitely go pro. No-one will make it look better than a pro, and make it last all day/night.

Great Question! It all depends on how confident you feel doing it yourself. Sometimes though it is nice to be pampered on your wedding day. A good make-up artist should do a trial with you first to iron out all the details. You could save some money however by going somewhere like MAC on your big day (found at quality department stores on the cosmetic floor or in major urban shopping areas. You pay £25 for a one hour make-over and then you gain £25 worth of product that you choose. You can't go wrong with that! It's super fun too, going with your maids to get all glammed up. Good Luck!

    Thanks both!

i wont have time to get into town to MAC as im having a 12pm ceremony, I suppose i could have my trial and see how it goes, i do like the idea of looking flawless and not my usual attempt lol.

    xx

I think go for a pro if you can afford it. As amazing as spending £70 on great makeup would be long-term, I am quite sure sods law would come into play on my wedding day and I'd stick my mascara wand in my eye or do something else daft which would end up with me having to start again and get stressed out.

At least if you're confident with it you have a backup plan should you change your mind after your trial, but I think taking time to be pampered and enjoy your wedding day is worth the money...

I'm doing mine myself as I'm confident doing my own and I'm weird about other people doing my makeup as no-one's really been able to get it how I like it. I did however have a lesson with the Bobbi Brown girls and I bought most of the products there, save a few things. I've practised a couple of times to get timings and to see whether it'll last - so far so good. If you're confident doing your own makeup I would really recommend the Bobbi Brown counter, they gave really good tips, most of which I am using - and I have gorgeous makeup to play with too.

I think get a pro - it will be nice and calming to be pampered before the wedding!

I would say go for a trial though so the artist is prepared for the wedding and knows what you want - may speed things up on the morning of your wedding!

My friend did her own make up and she looked beautiful and she's used the make up a lot since. Only thing I'd say is practice beforehand and check how it looks with a camera flash because it looks different in photos than it does in person.

I did my own but looking back, I would have liked a pro come to the house.

With the dept store make overs I think you have to spend the value of the make over on the make up after but I could be wrong x
