Make up help!

Penny P, 15 October, 2013 at 13:23 Posted on Planning 0 11

My sister is doing my wedding make up, she is fantastic! But I need help with is the actual products. What should I buy? I think I need primer, foundation, concealer, blusher, bronzer, eyelashes, mascara, eye shadow, eye liner, lipstick - you get the idea! I know the colours I want I just don't know what/where to buy. I need it to stay put ALL day. I rarely wear make up so it's all a bit alien to me!

I've heard good things about Estee Lauder foundation. No7 Stay Perfect foundation is also really good and what I'll be wearing. I do use a primer before hand too.

I always use the No7 eye base before applying eye shadows as they seem to stay on much better.

I've also invested in the Clarins Fix Make Up spray as I've heard brilliant things about that. My friend used it on her wedding day and her make up stayed on brilliantly.

I don't ever wear lipstick so I can't advise on that I'm afraid!

I don't wear make up either. I probably have a scummy eye liner somewhere, maybe an old lipstick, but that is it. My sister in law is going to do my makeup with help from a friend - but frankly, I dont' expect to wear loads as people would think it weird since they have never seen me with make up on.

My sister in law ( who is coming from over seas) said to just make sure I have a light foundation, some gloss and mascara - apparentely she can work wonders with that, but I can't advise on specific brands.

My FMIL seems to think make up is a must, but...meh. I'm hawt without it! *grins* I bet you are too!

I'm just too lazy for make up. I wear specs so that hides my dark circles!?

I have been told by photographer that make up often doesn't show up too well in pics so I need to wear a fair bit plus my specs always hide my eye make up so when I do wear it I need to go a bit OTT!

Why don't you go to a makeup counter of your sister's choice (as she knows her stuff) and ask for a makeover?

Then buy whatever products they suggest if you like them?

    What Pugsley said!

Do you have a Debenhams / House of Fraser / Selfridges / Harvey Nichs / large Boots near you? There's nothing stopping you from having a trial with different brands, so you know what works best for your type of skin etc.

I'm not sure not clued up with make up at all but I agree you could both go to a local department store and ask for help with products, or book a trial session and get some advice? I've heard good things about No7 and MAC.

    Exactly this.

My makeup artist used Mac on my wedding day, but for everyday I really rate Bare Minerals. Been using the stuff for years and it's great if you're not used to makeup as it feels very lightweight in comparison to others.

Definitely go for a makeover at a make up counter first, there's so much choice and what suits some people doesn't suit others and it will give you more of an idea what you need/what looks nice. MAC do makeovers that you pay for but then you get that money towards products and you get a good idea of what you need.

Hi Penny I would recommend that you use an eye primer so your eye shadow lasts- a good one is Too Faced eye insurance- you can buy this from Boots.

Use a face primer your foundation will stay on throughout the day/night- good ones are Laura Mercier foundation primer- from Selfridges and Smashbox photo finish foundation primer- you buy this from Boots.

    Definitely use a waterproof mascara.

I use Make Forever HD Foundation for brides- really good but quite expensive- from Guru makeup emporium (online).

    Hi,

We all wore Bare minerals for my daughter`s wedding and it looked flawless. I would say go to one of their counters in John Lewis or Debenhams and they will try colours etc and make a list and you can collect it gradually before the wedding, or ask for some for christmas. Also QVC have it in various kits which are good value.

I would say definately use their foundation and mineral veil on top.

    Hope this helps

    Lynne
