My cousin did mine as a wedding present but I did contemplate doing my own before she offered. Would you feel comfortable doing your own? If not have it profesionally done. Prices vary so do your research.

    Hi Hummingbird,

I paid to have a lady do my make-up for my wedding day. TBH I would really reccomend it if your having a professional TOG as looking back on my photo's now my skin looked flawless and perfect.

I did umm and ahhh about doing it myself for a while but am now so glad that I did not as the photo's look great.

My only advise is shop around and have a few trials too. Good luck x

    Hey!

I'm doing my own but my BMs said they will help me if I needed any help! I think it just depends on how confident you are with doing your own makeup and whether or not you have budgeted for a professional. x

I'm doing my own, but am buying all new make up and brushes which will cost a lot more than getting it done by someone else! I still think it's better for me personally to do it myself though, because a/ I won't feel as anxious if I've got to rely on someone else, b/ even though it's a more expensive option initially, I then own all of those products and have them for ages (and I needed to buy some more soon anyway as am nearly out of some of my basics), c/ I will feel better taking my lipstick and compact powder with me for later in the day, d/ I get more out of it in the long run to not only own the products, but in all the tips and tricks I've been taught by MUAs while I've been having trials!

I considered doing my own for all of about 10 minutes when I realised that it doesn’t come cheap but not wobbled about this since, I am definatley going to have someone do it for me, I’m cr*p at doing my own and for such a big day when I’m going to be all nervously excited getting ready and all those pictures being taken, it will be worth every single penny for me and I’d rather scrimp and save somewhere else so I can have this. Same applies to hair! BM’s are doing their own though (I said if they want it they can pay for themselves)

I am planning on getting a trial/lesson done as I love Bobbi Brown stuff and I know they offer them for about £50. But am wondering if this is the best idea as I am pretty rubbish and not sure 1 lesson would turn it around for me, so by the time I have practised, bought the stuff and had a few lessons it may be more valuable just to pay the once to get someone to come and then be able to relax on the day. I am just worried I will feel uncomfortable having someone poking at my eyes and stuff.

I had a trial at a Benefit Counter for free, bought a few bits and did my make up and my sisters!

I wanted to be relaxed and to still look like me, which I felt I might not if my make-up was very different to the norm.

Bobbi Brown do free lessons, I'd book a couple if I were you! I've had 7 make up trials (Clinique, Bare Minerals, Benefit, Estee Lauder, Lancome, Bobbi Brown and MAC) and all were great for giving me tips. I fully expected to buy a couple of products from each, but have utterly fallen in love with MAC. They offer a make up lesson for £50, but then you get £50 knocked off any products you buy so since I know I'll be spending over £100 on make up I am definitely going to book the lesson.

I would say book a Bobbi Brown trial anyway, as you may be comfortable with someone else doing it. I prefer to do my own make up but have really valued the extra tips I've got from MUAs!

Do they really?! When I was in the Traff Centre branch about 3 months back they had a sign up saying £50 for bride and £35 for MoB make up lessons! I will check again nearer the time, thanks for the tip Smiley smile I have also been looking at BB trained mobile MUAs so will weigh up both options.

I'm doing mine myself. Have had a few free trials and going to do a couple more. Buying things i like as I go. I think the big difference is that I'm thinking about it all more than I normally would and buying products that make a huge difference, make it look more polished like the Benefit Browzings which I'm now in love with and a MAC paint pot that's a primer for eyeshadow and makes sure it won't crease. It's those kind of things I'm focusing on as I quite like the foundation I have (clinique).

I went for a make up trial with a lady but scrubbed it all off when I got home as it felt too heavy as I don't wear much. I just did my own. Very basic but that is just how I wear it.

I'm definitely having a professional do it. As fine as my makeup looks first thing in the morning, I always look substantially worse by mid afternoon! And all those people hugging and kissing you, wearing it off?

Also, the last thing I want to be doing is stressing about getting my makeup right on the morning.

    Thanks guys,

you have all made reasonable points, for both sides of the coin... so i'm still unsure hahaha.

I'm not the worst at doing my make up ( I don't think lol) but the point that Kharv just made about it been worn off mid afternoon just struck a cord .. hhhmmmm

But also what 50's pin up bride said, you can buy good stuff ( which i usually do ) and then i can have it for the next few months, long term money saver!!!

I was going to do mine, but then one of my closest friends offered to do it. I had so much faith in her, we only did the trial three days before the wedding!

I'm having a make up artist do mine. I don't wear a lot of make up so don't feel comfortable and she's doubling up as my hair dresser.
