Make Up Primer

*gnashers*, 10 May, 2012 at 17:29 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 11

Ok, I ask for a little advice, if I may.

About six weeks ago, I bought Laura Mercier's Hydrating Primer. It was fab at first but over the last week, it's started to separate and in short, I'm taking it back (it was £28 so not cheap).

Can anyone recommend a decent make up primer? I have pretty dry skin but don't tend to wear make up when it's really bad (it gets to the point where my skin flakes off my face...no make up is making that look better), so I guess one for normal skin would be fine.

I'm thinking bare minerals maybe, but if anyone can recommend others, it would be much appreciated.

Ta!

I used the maybeline primer and it was great. expensive for the small amount that you get, but it was still good. i also use the witch primer too. although i use clarins everlasting foundation which i was told not to use primer with. not really sure if that's of any help!

I didnt know bare minerals did a primer but i do love their stuff.

I use a no.7 one at about £10 roughly, but my mum uses a revlon one i think it is, or loreal, sorry i cant quite remember, but hers is brilliant. Like rubbing silk into your skin.

I have the L'Oreal Studio Secrets anti-reddening one. It's interesting and green... Certainly does the job! My foundation sits a lot better on my skin since I started using that.

I think the bare minerals one is quite greasy, it's more like a serum. And it's tiny.

I'm currently using a Maybelline one and it's actually really good.

I use a GOSH one which is a velvelty gel, a dupe of the smashbox one. It feels lovely going on but TBH I've not seen a difference in the way that my foundtion lasts on my skin with or without primer.

For your dry skin - what are you using? When my skin is very dry I use a layer of Elizabeth Arden eight hour cream like a mask and sleep in it, wake up with dry skin gone!

I have Smashbox Photo Finish Primer for when my skin is good as you don't need much of it and it really smooths your face.

When I'm tired or my skin is a bit dull I use MAC Prep+Prime Skin Brigtening Serum. Same smoothing effect but perks my skin up too Smiley smile

I have similarly dry, flaky skin - I have a smashbox hydrating one. it's water based rather than oil based as even with my dry skin oil based products make me break out. oh gave it to me (on instruction!) as part of my christmas present.

I use the Boots 17 one - I know. But it's cheap enough for everyday and seems to work pretty well.

And then I use that green stuff so I don't look like a tomato.
