Make Up Tips And Tricks.....

BrogstarBride, 12 November, 2012 at 10:35 Posted on Planning 0 9

After having 3 make up trials and spending £120 I have now decided that the make up artists do not do my make up how I like it, even after explaining to them what i want and I think I can do just a good a job my self!! So my plan now is to go to some of the nice Make up counters ie - MAC, Bobbi Brown, Benefit etc and buy some make up and experiement myself as i have plenty of time after all!

I was just wondering if any of you lovely Brides to be have any make up tips you can share ie Eyeshadow application tricks, Highlighting brow bones etc... Anything at all would be much appreciated! Smiley smile

xx

The Bobby Brown counter told me not to use anything with SPF in it because you come out shiny on photos. I'm not very makeup orientated but was something I never knew! They're a few good makeup channels on youtube, just have a search for makeup and see what takes your fancy

My absolute favourite youtube makeup channels are pixiwoo and KandeeJohnson, both professional make-up artists. Kandee Johnson uses mainly MAC products and she has a great smokey eye tutorial which really works! Pixiwoo is great for various looks - she has everything from Bond Girl to Kim Kardashian to Megan Fox ... and she's really good at explaining things too. Both of them have bridal make-up tutorials.

I'm doing my own make-up as well and am using a mixture of Bobbi Brown and Estee Lauder products, with a dash of Benefit in there too. I always let my foundation set for at least 30 minutes before starting on the rest of the make-up. I also apply foundation with a brush as it blends so much better - I'm never using pads or my fingers again! I'm using Estee Lauder Double Wear Light - apparently the 'normal' Double Wear isn't recommended for brides as you come out all shiny in the photos.

Most importantly - practice, practice, practice! ?

I suggest you have a look at Lisa Eldridge's website. She is a professional MUA and has the most amazing video tutorials. There are a few on bridal makeup and then also others on specific techniques such as highlighting etc.

I really love her site, not least because she does the makeup on herself and is brave enough to film everything right from the beginning when she doesn't have a scrap of makeup on!

I did a course in wedding makeup a few years ago and I can remember them saying about how a certain ingredient in some make-up gives that horrible ghostly appearance in photos as it reflects the light... think it's titanium dioxide, or something? So avoid any makeup with that in!

On my wedding day I used my trusty YSL foundation under bareminerals powder foundation, concealer & bronzer, with a rimmel blusher. My make-up stayed in place all day and I have oily skin!

The trick is to apply makeup thicker than you usually would. It looks so much better in photos! When I did my makeup trial, I did one half of my face with just the bareminerals makeup (which I wear every day), and one half with the YSL foundation as a base under the bareminerals. I then took a photo of my face with the flash on and although in the mirror you couldn't see the difference, in the photo you could massively! Using a thicker base foundation smoothed out my pores and hid my imperfections.

Just make sure you do lots of trials and take photos every time, with the flash on! xx

I did my own make up for my wedding and spent months reading and researching about different brand. The in-style beauty awards are a good resource. I used Dior forever foundation and loved it...I still do. It's like smoothing on velvet compared to the MAC one I use every day. The best tip i got for long lasting foundation was to put on a 1st coat, blot your face lightly with a tissue to take off any oil and then put on a 2nd coat. worked like a charm for me. I can also recommend laura mercier primer and secret camflague, nars blusher and highlighter are also good. I bought a chanel lipstick which was lovely to wear. All my eye colours were bobbi brown.

    Hi,

I would recommend Bare Minerals make up. If you use the primer underneath it will go on beautifully . Use the concealer to cover any redness or blemishes, or little scars. The mineral veil gives an airbrushed finish over the top. Their flawless definition waterproof mascara is good too. All gives a natural look. A dusting of Radience too adds a warmth.

    Hope this helps

I LOVE Lisa! She is so amazing!

With that said, as a wedding makeup artist there are tons of different tips and tricks in regards to wedding makeup.

    • Practice makes perfect.

    • Make sure you contour and highlight. This will give your face much needed dimension in photos. When you contour with bronzer, make sure it's a matte bronzer as it won't reflect light (which will be horrid with flash photography).

    • If you're oily, make sure you powder so you don't look greasy! Or bring blotting paper with you in case you do start shining. The camera will thank you later Smiley smile

    • If you're applying false lashes (which is a MUST in my book as it opens your eyes), remember placement makes a difference. Half lashes on the outter corner of your eye gives you eye a more "cat-like" appearance elongating your eye. However, if you put it in the middle of your lashes/eye, it will make your eye seem more round and doe-eyed.

    • To open your eye try lining your lower water line with a beige coloured waterproof pencil. This will also help with the doe eye effect.

    • If you can, line the top water line of your eye with a black/dark colour waterproof pencil. This will give the illusion of thicker lashes. Who wouldn't want that? Smiley smile

    • Waterproof, waterproof, waterproof! If you're bound to cry, make sure you're make up is waterproof!

    • Personal preference, but the highlight on your brow bone should be a light matte eye shadow. Too much shine reflects too much light.

    • And if you do want shine, go with shimmer and not glitter

    • Invest in long-lasting makeup. Brands like MAC, Estee Lauder, Make Up For Ever and other high street brands offer long lasting formulas. But other companies like Rimmel, Covergirl, L'Oreal, etc offer them as well for much cheaper!

    Hope that helps Smiley smile
