Make up trial tomorrow and im worried.

atlonglast, 5 November, 2010 at 01:48 Posted on Planning 0 13

I have my trial tomorrow afternoon and im a little worried. I do wear make up but its always a very natural look, quite light, but i can tend to look a little shiny in photos. Dont usually mind but i want to avoid it on my wedding pictures. Last time i had my make up done i washed it all off because it was just so thick and i felt weird and not me at all. I also found the woman a pain in the arse, she never listened to a word i said and did a crappy job to be honest. I think my 4 year old son could have blended better.

I just want to look nice and im not sure what i should have or how or anything... Its so frustrating.

Off for a sleepless night i think. Smiley sad

I've never had a make up session done at a counter but I have had my "colours" done twice which included a make up makeover. I must admit, I don't like people doing my make up because I hate people putting anything near my eyes and I had to stop her putting the mascara on because I just couldn't bear it so I asked for the brush and did it myself instead! My daughter is having here make up done by one of her friends on the morning of the wedding and asked if I wanted her to do mine but not sure because she works for Mac and I think their colours are a bright for me - I prefer a more neutral look but I migh give it a trial just to see.

But isn't that the whole point of a trial? If you don't like it you can tell her. If you're up front and tell her what you're aiming for you should get a result. If you don't like it at least you have the option of telling her to stuff it and find someone else. Ask her if she can do mineral foundation - that will help eliminate shine and feel weightless at the same time.

I had a make-over at a counter once. I hated it, she put me in coral lipstick, brown eyeliner and peach eyeshadow - eeeek! This is why I'm doing my own make-up.

How did it go atlonglast? I'm the same as you, nervous about make up trials as I only wear light make up and personally am not a fan of the caked-on look. I know some friends who do wear a lot of make up but do it well so it really works for them; but I've seen make up counter ladies who, in my mind, look quite OTT with a lot of foundation. I'm sure they would think I look terrible precisely because I don't wear a lot of make up too though, lol! Let us know how it went x

It went really well. It was more make up then im used to but it looked nice and importantly i still looked like me. H2B liked it very much too.

I am definitely having her to do my make up on my wedding day. Im alsoo going back on saturday for some eyelash extensions as they were on offer and ive always wanted to get them done.

Oh it certainly is... I cant believed how stressed i was about a make up trial. But after the last proffesional make up woman i had im not too surprised, she actually made me cry it was that bad.

Just a few more little things and my cake to make and im ready for the big day..yay!

I'm glad it went so well. You will have to do a before and after picture of your eyelashes, I'm dying to see how they look!

To put your mind at rest further, most photographers won't use "direct flash" (that means using the flash straight at you). This is what can make you look really shiny.

They'll prefer to use bounced or heavily diffused flash which'll look much more natural...

    Hope that helps!

Thanks Jon. That makes me feel better.

Mrs GtoB The other lady was a few months ago and i think she could just tell from my face that i would not be giving her a call. Also i didnt book any follow up appointment with her. The lady i had on Saturday was booked on the spot. x

Glad to hear the trial went well. Im not having someone do my makeup for this reason too. Too sacred that it will look too much and fake. I would never tell the brides, but the last couple of weddings i've been to, whilst looking beautiful they have looked a bit overmade. Plus as we are getting married quite a long way from where we live, its not really feasiable to go down there just for a make up trial to come back.
