Makeup help (and hair) - do it myself or not?!

mocha, 6 April, 2011 at 22:05 Posted on Planning 0 3

Okay so I didn't know how to name the thread but here goes...

i am having a pretty small wedding as in me, hubby to be and parents so i believe that yes despite me being a bride i shouldn't have to pay £150+ for hair and makeup (quoted high prices as soon as u mention wedding).

SO i have been panicking a lot but this week managed to calm myself a bit.

i never wear makeup so i get freaked out seeing myself trying out different ones but i found that i like eyeshadow to be creamy and not powdery as it looks a mess.

MAC made me look a mess because of the powder

i went to urban decay who have this primer base thing u put on ur eyelids and wen u put their eyeshadow on top (not tried other brands on top) the colour comes out really nicely.

so... i got one of their staff to try makeup on me and she put two colours on my eyelids, pencil eyeliner and then liquid, and mascara and i really liked it.

the thing is i don't know anyone who would be able to do it on me so i popped into local salons and asked them and they said they only have MAC makeup which i don't want.

i bought all the makeup i used at urban decay (eyeshadow primer, two eyeshadows in dif colours, eyeshadow brush, blending brush, pencil eyeliner, liquid eyeliner, mascara) and it came to almost £100!

i then also bought lipstick from another brand, and a primer for face to put under foundation (i have a foundation i like from before so don't include that in the cost, but the primer was to cover pin pricks on my face which i'm not sure how much it works and it cost £20).

anyway, so makeup has probably now come to way over £100 maybe £150.

i don't know how to put eye makup on too! i wentto ask the staff to teach me but it wasn't the same person and this person did it horribly.

so, the salon nearby will do my hair as i said it is for a party so i got quoted £50, and they will also do makeup maybe for £30.

should i tell them to do makeup then keep the eyeshadow colours only, and let them put their own mascara, eyeliner and use their own eyeshadow brushes and their own lipstick?

the reason why i am saying this is because i probably won't use mascara and eyeliner ever again, and the eyeshadows as well. but i really liked the colours.

what about the primer for my face, should i give that back too? i'll probably keep the base for the eyeshadow. so all in all maybe about £50 for that.

what to do?

Have you tried looking on Youtube? There's a girl on there who shows you how to achieve different looks (can't remember who) but she's really good - how to with demos. She does one for 'less is more' she's done a natural look bridal, smokey eyes, fake tan, she's even done drag queen. If I find a link I'll post it. But it might be worth a search.

Do u think it is worth it for me to do it myself?

the makeup itself costs over £100 which i will never use again. should i just trust in mac eyeliner and mascara, and hand them my two eyeshadows?

Now you have bought it, it seems silly not to learn how to apply it. Why not practise at home a few times (use the youtube videos the others were talking about) and see what it looks like? If you really can't get it right then go to the professionals and ask them if they can use your products.
