Makeup in Salons - how good will it be?

Bubbles369, 15 August, 2012 at 10:20 Posted on Planning 0 5

We have quite a few small spa's in the town I will get married in. Most of them offer everything I would need on the wedding morning and day before ie hair, nails, makeup. I've had some mixed prices for these 'packages'. All of them involve going to the spa on the morning of the wedding, which is the request of my mum, as the house isn't huge.

I'm assuming that the beautician will be applying the makeup, and we will be having trials beforehand. I'm afraid this shows my ignorance but is a beautician trained to apply makeup? Will it be as good as a makeup artist? Or should I get a separate make-up artist?

A beautician will probably have been trained to apply makeup buy only as part of a beauticians course so it will just be one of the services they provide. Salons tend to use salon brand makeup which is normally quite cheap in quality and not designed to last for up to 15 hours (like bridal makeup should be) and it won't necessarilly photograph well. The main problem with salon makeup is that they will apply it under artificial lights not daylight. This makes it hard to colour match properly to your skintone and also makes it hard to see how much makeup is applied and the tendency is to apply too much. I would seriously recommend that you have a trained makeup artist come to you instead. It's the one day of your life that you'll be photographed all day and you want to look your best. Juliet

I've ended up having mine done at a salon. Had the trial, was pleased with the results and went with them. I'm sure there are bad salons just as there can be bad MUAs, but from my experience, it's a bit rash to rule them out altogether.
