Making appointments with dress shops

Tina Teaspoon, 4 July, 2010 at 11:28 Posted on Planning 0 8

As I am the official Dunce Bride of this forum (completely disorganised, and half the time, I have to admit, not very interested in planning!), please can someone who is better at these things advise me?!

How far in advance do I need to phone dress shops to make appointments? My lovely bridesmaids and my even lovelier mum are visiting at the end of the month so that we can go dress shopping, so I need to really start organising myself and arranging some things. Do places get booked up weeks in advance, or not? I'm a bit ? because I need weekend appointments to fit in with everyone, and I think they're more likely to get booked up first.

Also, how long does one spend in a dress shop anyway?

Thank you, nice clever organised wedding ladies!

Busy time of year for them so the sooner you make an appt the better. Have various dates prepared so that you can offer alternatives.

Appt for one is usually about an hour, I didnt do my bms at same time as me; seperate shops etc etc..

so an appt for you alone and a sep one for bridesmaids in my opinion. Plus, do you really want everyone there??????

I went looking alone, then with my cbm and when I found the one I took mum.

Hello, if you are worried just call them and ask them how far in advance to book but to be honest all the ones I have been to have been happy for me to just go in and have usually been able to deal with me there and then.

I'd estimate at least an hour, likely 2 as these babies are not the quickest things to get in and out of!!

    Hope that helps x

Lol Laura, that's what I was thinking - the whole logistics of getting in and out of the dresses could easily take a full day for me I'm sure!

Thanks for the advice, it sounds like it can vary a lot depending on where you are so I will just have to bite the bullet and phone round.

Teehee - the appointments are just for my dress, not for the BMs too as we'll be doing that later (good old Debenhams). But yes I do want both of them plus my mum, they all want to be there and as a package (2 BMs plus mum) they make up my best friends in the whole world - can't imagine doing it without them.

Better find some shops then. I am trying to plan a trip to Zambia in August, wedding planning does not fit in too well alongside that at the moment!

Just ring them up and ask. Best to book it now and know you've got it planned rather then not know until that day!

Also, I made a list of shops who stocked designers I liked and made appts with them. When it came to asking if they had dresses X Y or Z, they didnt have them so I couldnt try them.... so that was a bit rubbish.

You might find that on a Saturday you are limited to one hour (I managed about 8 dresses an hour!), and some of the smaller shops might limit the number of specators you are allowed.
