Making Invitations?

Kimblebee, 4 May, 2013 at 13:25 Posted on Planning 0 8

I've been considering this for a while now because all the handcrafted invitations I've seen can be really expensive and I just don't have the budget.

I'm not the most creative type, so need some ideas.

Has anyone made their invitations or planning on doing so? Will it work out cheaper, or am I best just getting them made?

I don't want them to look cheap and tacky!!

If you arent a professional then I say keep it simple, the simpler the more effective, simplicity can look very chic and it also has the added bonus of not requiring too many tools etc that you would uniikely need for the future.

    What is your wedding theme?

My mum is a cardmaker, so i will design and she will make, but mine will be very basic, we going for a "recycled" Woodland theme. like this

It can work out cheaper to do yourself but can take a lot of time that a lot of people dont take into consideration depending on the design. I would say if you make your own keep it simple and remember less is more as a lot of people do have a habit of keeping to add. There have been some beautiful invitations made on here from hitchers and is worth nosing through the past posts. I can help with either as I sell low cost wedding stationery and also DIY supplies, where we put up ideas of invitations and tips and advise on things you may be unsure of. Something like this cheque book invitation is only £1.00 made for you with upto 4 inserts and return RSVP invitation

My theme is vintage.. And my colour is a deep purple.

I best start putting some ideas together, i'd something with a bit if lace (i have a lace dress) so i think that will tie in nicely.

I think you are all right with less is more!! Smiley smile

thanks for the examples they are lovely

We are making ours from scratch, I am not too fussed about tacky etc as long as they just do the job. So far we have... Still got the day and evening bits to stick on plus the inserts inside. So far for 100 invites I have spent £10 on the invitation card, £8 on butterfly hole puncher, £3 on stickers and £5 on coloured card

I am planning to make mine too, but clueless as to where to start. I have ages as we aren't getting married until 2015, but this just means I have more time to change my mind!

Do you have any creative friends or family members that can help you? My sister (also a bridesmaid) works in a printers, so I am hoping that she can help me out closer to the time.

I'm sat making mine as we speak. I'm currently cutting all the inserts we printed on paper into squares to stick in the cards. I bought ivory linen cards in bulk off eBay, then coloured card from hobby craft and some decorative bits off eBay. I think when we have done everything including place cards, order of service, table plan, menus and invitations it will still come in at under £100. It does take time though. Like the others have said keep it simple. And use a guillotine. We've borrowed one from OHs dad and it is a lifesaver. I found an idea I liked on google then adapted it to suit my colours. To buy the ones I found was £3 per invite! Anyway I'm going to flash when I've done them but so far so good and definitely worth putting the time in.

Ohh! I will look forward to seeing them then.

Yes, my sister who is one of my bridesmaids is quite creative so I'll probably get her involved at some stage - what are sisters for ay! ?
