Making my own Invitations, Where did you all get your bits and bobs to make yours?

BrogstarBride, 14 April, 2012 at 15:59 Posted on Planning 0 25

I am planning on making my own invitations but dont know where to start! I want Pocketfold Invitations so im hoping you can buy them blank and them add your own little bits to it.

Does anyone know where you can get Diamantes, Stickers, etc to decorate them with?

Thankyou Smiley smile

All my stuff was from Hobbycraft! I got a voucher for £5 off my first purchase if I signed up to their newsletter so I signed me and OH up and bought my bits and pieces in 2 halves :-p

I'd recommend PDA card and craft for the actual card. I'd recommend them all the other little decorative bits and bobs too if you are local to Nottinghamshire/Derbyshire. Their factory shop has loads of brilliant things!

We found eBay the best place for ribbon, I really recommend the seller LardyStick. Dun Elm has a good craft section too where I got lots of bits for my Mums journal.

Also- cheapy shops like £1 shops and the Works sometimes have some good bits like stick on gems and stuff.

My daughter had loads of card and I used that and then bought some organza ribbon in The Range in a sale recently. Double sided tape is brilliant!!!

Lots of craft stuff in the Range, Dunelm Mll and out local garden centre - I prefer to see what I am buying first re colours etc

    Good luck making ?

I too had pocketfolds & initially planned to print them at home. After seeing the quality, I got them printed professionally as the finish, esp on double sided inserts with maps, was so much better.

I also used https://www.pdacardandcraft.co.uk/ as they had the largest rang of pocketfolds I could find. Not only a huge range of pocketfold shapes & sizes, but also textured card if you want something a bit different.

They printed the details on the inserts, & sent it all flat, then I did the rest. Glued the envelopes together, glued inserts in, I used a decorative hole punch to make the corners more interesting, added ribbon, mini diamond embellishment, diamante buckle & a little velcro spot to keep the invite closed.

    Ribbon & velcro dots- ebay

Decorative hole punch, glue & dimond emellishment- hobbycraft

    Diamate buckles-https://www.wowvow.co.uk/diamante-buckles-and-ribbon-slides.html

(If you are using the buckle with ribbon check the sizing of both. For a bunched up ribbon look, get ribbon wider than the buckle, bar size, If however you want to ribbon flat, get it the same size at the buckle bar. Also check exactly what size the buckle is, as they can look deceptive on the internet. One that sounds really cheap, can infact be a really tiny size, which would look ridiculously small on an invite.)

Another fan of PDA card and craft here, I got all my card and envelopes from there. If I had added extra bits (diamantes etc), I would have got them from eBay. If you do decide to make your own, remember to allow more time than you think to make them, and also make sure you have plenty of double sided tape ?

I dont know about double sided tape, but I used a glue roller machine like the one in the pic.

At first it seemed to be great, was quick & stuck down the envelopes, but after a few days they all lifted. Avoid these for invites. I ended up using white paper glue & a toothpick/skewer to apply the glue.

I got a roll of pretty wallpaper and put strips of that on. Cheap as chips and quite effective i think! And a bout faux pearl sliders off ebay to put on some ribbon round them. They wokred out cheaper than the stamps to send them!!
