Making wedding invitations - advice needed!

Jinglebride, 28 June, 2012 at 21:46 Posted on Planning 0 10

I'm making our own wedding invitations and have designed them but it will require lots of bits of card to be cut out in various shapes. Each invitation will have about 7 shapes cut out and stuck on... does anyone know if there are businesses that will cut out lots of the same shape from a template? My friend told me about one she used but it's since closed down and I'm struggling to find another. Any ideas?!

We will need about 150 invitations and I don't fancy cutting them all by hand!

I'm also making my own invitations and it's been a bit of a learning curve! I discovered the other day that you can buy punches that you use to make all manner of different shapes and sizes out of card. I don't know what they're called but I'm sure craft suppliers would know what you meant. I saw them in a card-making shop and ones that make a shape of, say, about 3" x 3" were around the £12 mark. I bought 100 large pre-cut heart shapes off ebay for £1.98! Not sure if this is really helpful to you but it might be worth having a look?

Can you post a picture of your mock up? I have a pretty good knowledge of what punches and cutters are about so I might be able to help

This is an early draft, need to tidy up the shapes a bit but this would give a rough idea of what I'm trying to do. H2B is in the navy, hence the ship/water theme!

Lovely design. I wonder whether a die cutting machine would work for this? I don't actually own one, so not sure how you program in the shape that you wanted it to cut but there's a description here

"Die-cutting machines are machines that are used to manually and electronically cut shapes out of different types of materials...Today, scrap-bookers and most crafty individuals use portable die-cutting machines at home to cut different shapes and letters out of different materials ranging from leather (for leather accessories), rubber, plastic, sheet metal, paper (for scrapbook layouts, homemade cards and other paper crafts), and fabric (for quilting)."

I've seen them in Hobbycraft for around £100, you might be able to get something cheaper on eBay?

I have a Craft Robo cutting machine and I'm just looking into the feasability of cutting these out for you. Will post back in a little while when we have tried it!

Thank Caryn, that's really nice of you! Don't go to too much hassle but would be great to know if that machine could do it and then it might be worth buying one. I'm also looking into the possibility of getting the design onto the computer so we might be able to just print them. Not sure if it'll look as good but would be much easier if it works!

Don't know if you still need help but I have cut this out with the Craft Robo. Sizes can be adjusted as required and if you dont like the tiara and veil it can be taken off!

Thanks, that's fab! Definitely worth looking into that machine then to see if I can find one that won't break the bank!
