Maldives honeymoon...who to book with and what resort???

Becs2012, 8 January, 2012 at 18:53 Posted on Honeymoons & Getting Married Abroad 0 5

We are planning on going to the Maldives for our honeymoon in May this year, but there are so many resorts it is so hard to choose one! We think we have narrowed it down to Vilamendhoo or Meerut, but I've read a lot of comments on Meeru saying that a lot of people got there and found out that the accommodation had been overbooked and had to be downgraded!!! They got good compensation and were eventually upgraded again, but I wouldn't like that to happen at all!!! But then on the other hand lots of other people have said how amazing it is.

Anybody been here and have any experience of these resorts? Also, who to book with???

Thanks!!!!!!!

This... but we booked through Blue Bay Travel (Tropical Warehouse) and it was £500 cheaper than direct with Kuoni.

We did a week in Sri Lanka and then a week in Kuramathi. It was out of this world.

I´ve been to Vilamendhoo and liked it. It is one of the best places for snorkelling - it has a house reef and the drop-off (where most of the interesting stuff to see is) is very near to the shore so you can swim out to it.

I haven´t been to Meeru so can´t really comment, although I get the impression that it caters to the masses really.

It´s a bit difficult to recommend a resort for you, as it really depends on what your criteria are - ie whether you want a big or small resort, lively or quiet, beach or water bungalow, what your priorities are - diving, snorkelling, a spa, choice of restaurants, AI package, chance to go on excursions etc etc. I know that the choice can be totally overwhelming, but if you have a think about what is most important to you, it can help you narrow it down.

It terms of booking, I would just shop around once you´ve got a shortlist of resorts to compare prices and then play the agents off against one another - you can usually get them to knock something off the price or to add in something extra.

    Hope this helps!

We've booked 10 nights to Kuramathi and 3 nights to Dubai for our honeymoon and can't wait.

spikeygoodness and Mrs C, when did you both go to Kuramathi? Just wondering what the weather was like as we're going in June which we know is more prone to rainfall but have been told by the travel agents that it throws it down for an hour then stops (similar to when we've been in Caribbean) . I know you can't predict the weather but just wondering what it was like when you were there.

We went at the end of March last year and the weather was perfect. No rain, a few clouds one day but apart from that it was total sunshine.
