US Dollars are most widely accepted. We barely used cash, it was all inclusive and anything extra was added to the bill and we paid with debit card when we checked out.

No malaria tablets required although do get a mozzie spray which is at least 50% veet (sainsburys do a good one).

High factor sun cream - you are only 4 degrees north of the equator!!

Mozzie spray is a must, and one of those mozzie plugs that you put in the room- I was bitten to pieces!

Also don't forget to buy all your suncream or your whole stay in the UK, the prices in resorts are high!

As Mrs C has said, you can pay your resort bill (ie. for any extra food, drinks, excursions etc) at the end of the holiday with a credit card. You should take some US dollars though for tipping (preferably in small denominations). We usually tip the room boy and the waiters (in both the restaurant and the bar) at the end of the holiday and the porters and boat crew as and when. The staff in the Maldives work really hard and even just a few dollars which is nothing to us makes a big difference for them.

If you have the opportunity to go to an inhabited island while you are there, it's also handy to have some extra cash for buying souvenirs etc.

With regard to vaccinations, I would suggest that you speak to the nurse at your GP's practice to check what the most up to date advice is. When I was there we didn't need any vaccinations, however it's always worthwhile making sure things like tetanus are up to date regardless of where you're travelling.

Have an amazing time - I'm jealous!
