Hi Im new to Hitched and recently engaged, we have been looking at wedding venues and we are quite keen on The place apartment hotel in Manchester. Has anyone else got married there or been to a wedding and if so what did you think?

Hi,we're getting married in Manchester city centre, the midland hotel Smiley smile we looked at the place... It's got a quirky feel to it and the reception room is nice.. But would you want to get married there also? That was the bit we didn't like about it as the area you get married is justbasically in the centre of all the apartments.. So people could be staying in there and look out onto your ceremony... I guess u could arrange to have your guests in those rooms though!

This was on my 'to see' list as the room looked quirky and the prices were good but i phoned up to book to go and have a look and was told that the event manager wasn't there so they didn't have the diary and i could just come and have a look whenever...i told them that i don't want to travel down to find a function going on so i can't look around and they basically just said i could just come whenever...good you may think but then i thought hold on a sec what if my wedding was going on and they tell a prospective bride and groom it doesn't matter they can still pop in and have a look at the room?!?!

as i say this WAS NOT the event manager so i could have just got someone who hadn't a clue but it put me off that they were so uninterested in booking a proper appointment and would allow me to see the function rooms even if a function was going on (if this wasn't the case then i would have turned up and been turned away!)

are you just looking city centre? might be able to help with some others...i've seen a fair few venues!! x

Yeah I can see why you would want a properly arranged appointment if you are travelling! We have actually booked the midland hotel so we're all sorted.... You should take a look... The staff there have been great so far Smiley smile when we saw the Place, we just called in and someone showed us round

The midland is lovely, beautiful rooms!! we have decided against city centre now...wanted some outdoor space and worried that the time we want (summer) there could be a festival/parade on which in past experience makes getting in and out of town a nightmare! I think it's good that they take you round if you just pop in but if i had my wedding on at the time and a bride and groom to be popped their heads round the door to look at the room i wouldn't be too happy haha Smiley tongue as i say could have just been someone who wasn't sure on procedure as i didn't speak to the event manager x

Hi Libby, We have venue dressed there a couple of times, my Daughter really loves it, but when we have been there working there were a few people wandering about who were guests there, and I did wonder how private it would be for a wedding .

I've been searching Manchester for a decent venue.

If you want town centre, i would definately recommend The Palace Hotel - Its amazing!!

Depends where in Manchester you are but have a look at Norton Grange, Castle Rochdale and The Royal Toby, Castleton, Rochdale.

I think we are going with the Royal Toby. We've heard loads of great feedback on it.

    The place is gorgeous!!

We have been told that we can go and look around at the venue when it is set up before the wedding takes place but not during, we really like the quirky feel of it and it doesn't both us to much if people staying in the hotel see us. its just not your average venue for a wedding to take place we love the atrium and the bistro. We have been dealing with one of the wedding planners right from the start and she is lovely nothing is too much trouble.

What other venues have you seen would you recommend?

My sil got married there recently. I thought it was lovely. Cost a fortune though, even the rooms for guests, we couldn't afford to stay, I drove as were only 20mins away, she spent thousands alone dressing the room as it was so huge and she had a few crashers but she didn't mind. The only other gripes of mine were that the portion sizes of the WB were small, lovely food though and the buffet in the eveining was gorgeous, probably equals the ones I do?

Other thing, I have 2 little ones and there was nowhere for them to play out in the rare blazing Manchester sun! They kept running out to the smoking bit which is straight onto a main road. Spent half the day chasing them!
