Manicures - general opinions please

Missusp2b, 9 January, 2013 at 17:02 Posted on Planning 0 18

Hi hitchers,

I've just spent most of the afternoon day dreaming about the wedding plans and just generally being quite unproductive!

I've been thinking about my nails for the wedding and whether or not i'll go for a solid, neutral colour or a french manicure. What are you going to have?

I think I'll have a neutral shade. Whatever I choose I'll go for Shellac, it's amazing!

    Probably a french manicure. Neutral.

I used to always have coloured nails, but I don't like the thought of potential colour chipping on the day. I don't do false nails either, so that options out for me.

I'm not sure what to do I keep changing my mind, I change my colour on my nails every few days and they chip loads so I'm thinking of having extensions for a change but they trash my nails for ages afterwards so not sure. I think I may go for French manicure as its quite classic, basically I can't decide!

If you're worried about chipping and/or nail damage try Shellac - it's like a gel (ie lasts for 2-3 weeks without chipping) but doesn't damage nails afterwards. I swear by it - I usually chip my nails before I leave the salon but even I can't damage the Shellac paint!

Brilliant i'm definitely going to try shellac then, my little boy has me pulling apart Lego pieces every 2 minutes and my nails chip instantly with it!

French is nice, also I second the gel manicure like shellac. You can get home kits from Boots called sensationail, I use that, never had a salon gel manicure.

I had Gelux in a pinky colour- like Shellac I think, it's just on your normal nails. I don't do fake nails so these were a good option, as it meant they'd last the honeymoon as well. I went to a really rubbish dodgy nail bar and they were a bit messy, but still lasted about 2 weeks.

Mrs M, I have a 3yo and recently had a gel manicure (wasn't shellac but similar) and it was fabulous, no chips whatsoever.

I had the manicure for a wedding as a guest just to see what it was like and I was really impressed so I'm going to have the same but either a v pale pink or french manicure. I can grow my nails so didn't want extensions.

I think I'm going to go for a very pale (almost see-through) pink so my fingers look a bit like a french manicure but less harsh tips if you know what mean?!

I had a fantastic set of footballers wives nails in a pale pink, it was an OPI colour called "princesses rule"

I would not like to have those blocky french manicure china whites that seem to be everywhere though.

I'm planning on getting my nails Shellac-ed as well, ideally in a Hollywood red.

I had nail tips as my nails were too short with a french but now I've grown my nails (yipee!) i always use gelish (do it myself at home).

I defiantly go for a gel polish as it'll last longer like the other ladies have said, i love pinky / beigey nude colours as you can't go wrong with those

It's either that one or the sparkly red that they do! I do love those O.P.I. people.

Well I ended up deciding I didn't have a spare £45, so spent £7 on No 7 nail varnish (pale/neutral colour) and did several coats, with a top coat on top myself. It was simple and lovely, but if I did have a manicure, I would have opted for French as any solid colour is something I could do myself
