Map and directions

LittleMissP, 7 March, 2012 at 15:31 Posted on Planning 0 7

I'm just thinking about our wedding invitations and what is needed to go inside them, i want to put an image of a map showing our venue and plus a brief description on how to get to our venue.

So far all i have is a screen shot of the google map image (without the google bits), is this ok or do i need to draw my own? Also, my venue's website doesn't have a direction section, so i can't use them and will have to come up with our own, but not sure where to start.

Can any of you flash your own, so i can get some ideas? Thank you ladies

Make sure sat nav can find the post code, if its a bit dodgy get them to sat nav somewhere near by and direct from there, also put the venues telephone number just in case they get lost.

We did a google maps for ours as well as local taxi company numbers for people to book if they were staying at another venue or to get home afterwards.

Actually this is a fairly good point. The post code for our church when put into a sat nav actually takes you to the vicarage.

I've got a print out of the google map showing the two locations on it. I did see some maps done in the style of cartoony child's treasure maps somewhere but can't remember where. although again that might confuse people.

I drew my map and wrote directions as well as including the full address.

Like DWC, our church postcode took you to the other side of the church gardens, a good 10 minute walk from the actual church which has another car park right outside the door!

I knew it would be an issue, so instead of trying to make adequate directions and maps on card to go in the invitation, we set up the website with all the information. The website is on gettingmarried.co.uk, which automatically sets up a page for directions and maps. There's even a little place for you to input a starting postcode and it will give directions to the venue. Then there's also directions by train and which airport to fly into, then how best to get there from the airport!

I think if you're printing something to go with the invites you need to cover all bases. I'm sure there will be people travelling by different methods, so include train directions and how far by foot or taxi it is from the station as well as the proper sat nav post code. I think the google map is sufficient, as long as it has the street names on!

    Thanks ladies

The sat nav post code for our venue is very acurate so i'm glad that's one less thing to worry about! the majority of our guests will be driving, so would need to do some sort of direction for them, i know i would need to something coming from the A3, but not sure how many different options i should do for travelling by car?

The rest will be coming by train, so i'll do some directions for them and walking from the station with some local taxi numbers. When putting travelling by train, do you put a big station like waterloo or just name the station that they will arrive at?

Ive just done directions "from the North and M42" and "from the South and M40". If anyone wants to come any other way, then they can work it out from a road atlas. I've also put the satnav postcode which is checked as accurate.

I would just put the name of the arrival station, but if you're feeling extra helpful you could also put the names of the line(s) that serve it. Or even the National Rail Enquiries website and/or telephone number.
