The minister took the paperwork away on our behalf and sent it in to the registrars offices (3 days after the date of wedding, by scots law)

then the certificate arrived after our honeymoon Smiley smile

Hi there we were given ours after the signing of the registers so same day - no waiting whatsoever. What our vicar did was took all the relevant information prior to us getting married to get everything prepared. He handed our marriage certificate to our best man who then passed it to my hubby.

Sometimes though the Registration book changes and this can delay registration as the registry officers can reject any church wedding certificates if they've been made on outdated books which is what happened to my friend and they had to go and resign on new ones it was all sorted but they weren't legally husband and wife until the new signing on the new forms! Silly vicar lol. Other than books changing I've not seen or heard of a delay all the weddings I've seen they've had their certificates straight away in England. I'm not sure about the wedding we did in Aberdeen as laws are slightly different in Scotland so perhaps they had to wait too!

Probably a dumb question now: but when you sign it - are you signing it with your new married name or your maiden name??

Well, one opinion is the vicar at the church deals with the paperwork but i dont know how they do that, and Mrs Jackson's certificate was given to the bestman by the vicar.

Now up here in scotland, a marriage has to be registered within 3 days of the cermony. Our minister recieved our 'blank' marriage cert, which i collected from the registrars office on the week of the wedding.

That is what we signed on the day.

The minister then took it to the offices on the Monday.

The offices filed away our original and gave us a typed out version so for example my signature just plainly said Miss Teehee CrazyGuys, iinstead of my sig. and so forth for the witnesses etc.

It was stamped by the registrar, signed by the registrar and then posted to us (about 3 weeks after).

I dont know how it works in ingerlund. Smiley smile

We were given ours on the day of the wedding, I'm not aware that we are supposed to take it to the registry office??

I used it to change my name at the bank- I hope I haven't committed fraud! ?

If you wish to be married in the Church of England or Church in Wales, speak to the vicar of the church in which you wish to marry. There is usually no need to involve your local register office.

    SCOTLAND

You must post (not email) the completed forms to arrive normally 4-6 weeks before the date of the proposed marriage and certainly no later than 15 days before. If you want a religious marriage (which includes other belief systems) the marriage schedule needs to be personally collected from the Registrar no more than seven days prior to the date of marriage during office hours

so once we have given notice - within those dates, the ride or groom return and pick up the marriage schedule (certificate) which is given to the minister before the ceremony.

It has to be signed in black ink from a fountain pen tooo which i found a bit odd.....

so i think youse inglish peeps are awright! Smiley smile

If you are getting married in an anglican church the certificate you sign on the day is then given to you and you don't have to do anything else, the church will then deal with informing the local registry office where all births, deaths and marriages are registered.
