Married now!! How do I change my name?

evie, 15 May, 2008 at 09:33 Posted on Planning 0 1

Hello everyone.

We had a wonderful wedding on 4 May, I wish we could do it all again because it flew by, such a fantastic day. Now we're on to the less glamorous tasks and I can't get my head around how to change my name. I'm taking my husband's ? surname but want to keep my maiden name ? as a middle name.

any tips? who's done this already and how did you start?

Thanks for your help.

To keep your maiden name as a middle name I *think* you have to change your name by deed poll...

When you get married you can use your marriage certificate to contact all banks, insurance companies, passport agency, DVLA etc and change your name on thier records t your married surname.

BUT to add your maiden name as a middle name you'll need to legally change your name which is where the deed poll bit comes in. https://www.deedpoll.org.uk/ Have a look at this website, maybe call them and ask.

I would imagine you change your name by deed poll first and when that is confirmed you then inform everyone of your full legal name. You may needto provide businesses with proof of the deed poll change as well as providing your marriage certificate.
