Mauritius reccomendations? *Update pg2 - Honeymoon is booked!*

Nutella, 29 May, 2012 at 14:51 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 18

Looking at going to Mauritius for our honeymoon - has anyone any advice or reccomendations on where to stay/what to do/things to consider? We have an appt with the estate travel agents in July so a while yet but I want to do my research first.

Noticed on another thread that Ninja Pigeon went on honeymoon, did anyone else?

    Hiya,

We stayed at the Heritage Awali Golf and Spa resort. It was lovely. THE most amazing food ive ever tasted.

Entertainment was a bit rubbish but when isnt it!!

All inclusive option was amazing - it included Champagne!

I would definatly recomend it if you want a honeymoon where you do NOTHING but sunbathe, eat lovely food and drink champagne!

There was a excellent golf course on site aswel where my husband played golf most days so that kept him happy whilst i sun bathed!

We had orginally looked at mauritus as theres more to do than places like the maldives. Theres the spice ports you can visit , loads od water sports and markets throughout the week . Alot of people hire a car and go exploring.

It was the awali resort and spa we were looking at although i would recommend having a look on trip advisor as there are many reviews on their. Some good some bad as always .

Think it will depend on what you are looking for but our travel agent said its one of the best .

    Excellent *is making notes*

Quite tempted by the idea of doing first week in a more remote hotel, totally do nothing etc and then move to another hotel in a different area of the island for the 2nd week and do more excursions etc. OH isn't keen on packing up and moving midway through but I get bored after a week in the same place!

Last time we went, the travel agent mentioned a possible 3 night trip to another island (return island i think it was called), did anyone do or consider this? Is it worth it or are we better just staying on mauritius for the full 2 weeks?

    Thanks

We went last year for our honeymoon. I absolutely loved the place. We stayed at Le Mauricia, 11 nights AI, flew from Heathrow direct to Mauritius with BA. We had a room upgrade and honeymoon discount and it came to around £3200 for the two of us.

We visited Casella Park which was amazing, we did quad biking amongst the animals, zip lining across a massive ravine, walked with Lions (effing fantastic!!) and had a Tiger Experience where we went in with the tiger cubs. That whole day was just brilliant and I thought nothing could top it until we went out on the boat to swim with wild dolphins. One of the best experiences of my entire life.

We also had a day trip to Il aux cerf, which was beautiful. Saw wild monkies, went out on a speedboat etc.

The whole trip was just brilliant and I'd recommend the hotel. It was the nicest I've ever stayed in although if you have big bucks to spend, there are some far more amazing places to stay over there (Royal Palm is supposed to be the best!). i loved Mauritius and am hoping we can go back maybe for out 10th Anniversary.

Cheeky bump as our appt is on Saturday. We really want to get booked there and then, will take advice of estate travel agent and I'm sort of inclined to let her guide us a fair amount, it's our honeymoon, its once in a lifetime I'm almost not interested in shopping around for best price etc, just want it to be stress free and amazing!

Just been having another look at the brochure and comparing against whats been said here. OH really likes the Awali resort and is blown away by your list of activities Panj!

Still wondering whether to do the full time in 1 hotel or to move hotels halfway through. I want to stay in amazing 5* luxury but not sure we can afford the full time with that.

Did anyone look at the Reunion island?
