May 2012 Brides ... How are we getting on?

Banana88, 15 December, 2011 at 11:34 Posted on Planning 0 763

Hello Ladies ?

Well i've been AWOL from wedding planning and Hitched for the last 2 months. Really don't know how that happened! I've probably missed lots weddings and updates on planning, so just wondered how we are all getting on? Another Q - any 12th May 2012 brides getting married in a church? If so have you heard from your vicar yet? I'm getting a little worried, as i'm pretty certain ours said she would contact in November and we've heard nothing, OH is in the process of contacting her.

Anyhow i'm almost sorted (I think!) Still need to find someone to do my makeup and we need to buy our rings - after Xmas. OH is finally going to pick his suit on Saturday, after much pestering from me. Men really do not rush things.

So ladies, how are you all doing?

Hiyaaaaa, everything has come to a total stand still with us at the moment, actually just can't be bothered, will get back to it all after xmas now I think!

We've got everything done really, except to buy rings after xmas, maybe we will get a bargain in the january sales haha. MY OH has to go and be fitted for a kilt too, and decided what colour shirt to have etc, he is toying with black, but little does he know he's not getting it!!! I much prefer white and it goes better with the ties and kilte we've chosen haha

We are getting married in Church on 26 May and have already had our final meeting with the priest, but I have just remembered (literally while typing) I need to phone the organist!!!! Haha, the joys eh?! xx

    Hey ladies,

Another 12th May bride here - but I'm having a civil ceremony so can't help you out with the church question I'm afraid ☹️

Deposits are paid on pretty much everything, but details still need to be finalised closer to the time.

I need to buy my underskirt in the new year, and sort out my maid of honour and flowergirl - but am otherwise sorted...dear God, how scary is that!?! ?

My ticker is now showing 4 months something and I think I may be close to having a panic attack, or an excitement attack if such a thing exists - I sooo can't wait but am simultaneously petrified! ?

How are you all getting on?

    Hey May Brides,

I have also kind of ground to a halt with the whole thing; most things are sorted, still got to do my invitations though, meh! And decide on flowers and cake, I have people sorted to do them but just haven’t set on any styles/designs. As for the OH and suits he’s yet to do anything about it, keeps changing his mind on style. I will no doubt in the end have to sort that to!

As for the church front, I have issues there; my vicar retired in September, and is not being replaced, great! There has still been a service every Sunday morning, but it’s never the same vicar, I’ve been told not to worry about it but I can’t help stressing that the most important part could end up a little bit of a mess!!!!! WAAAAAAA

But really overall things are sorted, I just need to make a start on all the faffy things, like favours, what are you having?

    Hello ?

We are 19th May and have met with our Vicar a few times although they were meetings arranged by me as I wanted to know what was happening. The Vicar himself is quite happy to leave everything until a month or so before. I am a stress head though and wanted to make sure we had everything we want in the service - and as I'm making my own orders of service I wanted a little bit longer than a month to make them in!!

We are pretty much all sorted, just to make my invitations and other stationary but otherwise all main things are booked organised. My dress arrived at the beginning of Dec - yippee!! But have decided to wait until Jan to have my first fitting as I want to make sure I've lost all the weight I'll no doubt put on over Christmas!

I think its definitely a grooms perogative to be so laid back, my OH wouldnt have even thought of getting measured for his kilt if I hadnt mentioned that maybe it should be done soon - we eventually went a few weeks ago so that was my last major tick off my list.

I cant believe how quickly the last few months have gone, I'm now worried that the next 5 will also fly by and our big day will be here before we know it. I am very exicted and looking forward to it but also kind of enjoying the build up and preparations and so dont want the time to go by too fast.

Far2calm - I made my favours, wine glass charms, one of the first things I did as it gave me something focus on and stop driving OH demented with wedding talk!!

Cant believe that in just a couple of weeks we will be able to say we are all getting married this year, not next year - scary!!!

The lady who is doing our chair covers is also making my favours. We are having 2 tone (ivory and green - to match our colour scheme), tulle bomboniere type favours. Instead of the usual sugared almonds that no one likes we are going to have some sort of chocolatey sweetie type things in them

Soon 2 b Mrs McLean - Eeek I think you just made me a little worried that I haven't even heard from my Vicar. I hope she hasn't forgotten about us! I know what you mean about not being bothered to do weddingy things. I think that's why I went AWOL for a while, the whole thing at the time just seemed like too much of an effort. Obviously it doesn't now though, that's why i've made a reappearance ?

    Hi Ladies ?

Glad to hear your updates, I'm much the same, I think Christmas and feeling wintery has not inspired me to do much wedding planning, full speed ahead in the new year when we will be getting married THIS YEAR!!

Just recently have bought my veil (get to see it tomorrow- squee!) and chose my wedding underwear today- but have left it in Debenhams for now hoping it gets included in some sort of January sales (haha remember to scold me in Jan when I come on here complaining I now cant get hold of it!)

As for favours- I still havent decided. I'm hoping to give bilbs of the local flowers we're using, but no idea whether I can actually get hold of them in May!

If its the groom's perogative to be laid back I think its contageous...I really feel I need to pull me finger out. Also ALL our suppliers are laid back (island life for you I guess) no one has asked for a deposit yet...hoping evrything is ok!!!

Less than 5 months!! eeep xxx

    Hi Everyone

I expect to receive my invitations back from printers in the next few days...will write them over the xmas/New year break and hopefully send them out by end of January. Other than that just cake, flowers, favours and bridesmaid dress to sort-oh and the wedding rings to buy. Plan to do all these in January/February time.

So been pretty organised....may feel differently in a few months.....!

Glad to hear I'm not the only one with much to do and no motivation (or time or money) 'til after Xmas. The shops all just have Xmas stuff out anyway, which is not helpful for May weddings, but am hoping to pick up a bargain FG dress in Jan sales, then crack on with all the other little bits. Still struggling for flower inspiration though, so any chance we can have some flower/colour flashes?

    Hi Ladies,

I was a May 2011 bride - best time of year to get married ?

Enjoy a short break over Christmas and come back to your planning with vigour in January - the few months after that will fly past! You'll be on your hen nights/weekends before you know it and the closer you get, the more time seems to speed up!

As for the church, don't worry to much if you've not heard anything yet. We attended our marriage preparation classes from the end of January, through February but we didn't do much in terms of setting our orders of service, music etc until early April so there's still lots of time left.

Plan on sending out in January-probably towards the end with RSVP of 7th April. Giving me time to chase the non responders. Venue needs numbers one month before so 26th April for wedding on 26th May.......

    26th May too ?

We are sending ours out at the end of january with an RSVP date of 31st March.

That gives people 3 months to reply!more than enough time but you so know there is going to be that handful of guests that you will have to chase ?

I'm 19th May! I thought that I was really organised and have most things organised, but I'm now panicking and am totally overwhelmed about it all. I'm also petrified. Not about the marriage, but about the wedding. I honestly just feel like running away and doing it with a couple of witnesses, but know that I'd regret that. I am in total denial that we're nearly at the end of the year and my ticker is *obviously* wrong

As for the churchy issue, i can help on that score - my Vicar wants to see us in Janurary. Must organise that...

Thanks CB and NurseBride2B on the church/vicar front. I'm a little less panicked now as OH has received an email back from her. Although her wording of the email is as if OH has reminded her she was meant to do the letters in November ? She's now writing the letters between Xmas and NY to send out in January.

I'm glad most are on track, and Flow i'm sure after NY wedding planning mode will kick in again and you will be sorted.

My invites are going to be sent out end of January, unsure on RSVP by date atm.

Hopefully this time I will stick around to see the rest of your plans, and eventually when the time comes ... the reports! Good Luck to all you 2012 ladies.

Our very simple DIY invites (day ones, family only) went out with Xmas cards made by the kids at the start of Dec, RSVP end March. I am still expecting to have to chase some replies! Also sent a couple of evening invites out to travelling guests. This will sound bad but hopefully we will get a few declines (we are expecting them from certain non-participatory corners of the family) so that we can invite close friends to the day as the ceremony venue capacity will potentially be filled by family. Not sure when to send out most of the evening invites- will probably delivery a lot of them by hand.

Another 26th may bride here...everyone seems to be quite organised which is good!!

I have the main bits sorted, just need to get gifts, jewellery for me & BM's & smaller things like pens for guest book, putting together our quiz card boxes etc

We have the invites but I need to add some ribbon and write them - we are sending them out in January with RSVP end of Feb.

Finally decided on favours which will arrive end of march - green and blacks mini choc bars..yummy!

It's the smaller bits that stress me out...table plan, choosing the vows, giving our dj a play list, writing meal choices on place cards...ah well hopefully i will find my mojo again after xmas like you all say...I'll have too! Smiley winking

I'm another 12th May bride. All my deposits are done, just need to finalise details nearer the time. Sending invites in the New Year.

Currently struggling with ceremony music. Having a civil ceremony and thought I always wanted Canon in D but now I think it's over played. Quite like Elgar's Salut d'Amour....

I'm panicking a little bit, mostly about messing up my vows due to nerves. Also about how I will cope with all eyes on us. I'm sure we will all be fine though. What's making you panic? Deep breaths ... and relax :o)

Everything really, think I'm just overwhelmed and emotional at the moment. I'm also like you and worrying about the 'all eyes on me' thing

We're handing out a few invites today to some of OH's besties, so hopefully they'll like them

12th May groom here! Pretty much sorted and all deposits paid. Still need to choose order of service and let registrar know. Got to write vows and do kilt measurements but 3 of them are kids so was advised to leave it until 6wks before as they are growing.

Apart from that just finalising details with the band, photographers etc. Coming round scarily quick will have been engaged for a year on 1st Jan!!

I've decided to pause for now, then have all systems go in the new year.

I'm giving myself a deadline of the end of Feb to get most of my bits done; have a break in March; and continue in April to do the last bits and bobs.

Not sure if that plan will work though

    I'm May 25th Bride!!

I've come to a stand still as well, which feels wierd!!! I've ordered a plaque for the centre of the top table.

Groom still needs to sort his suits, he knows what he wants but hasn't got measured or even tried them on, which is really starting to bug me now. Also need to sort rings but it's just a case of saving to pay for everything now.

Eek!!! 5 months and 2 days!!!

Now OH has been and picked his suit and put deposit down, I too am on wedding strike. Come January though I will be stressing, as need to finish off my invites to send out at the end of the month.

Not long now and we will be in 2012 with 4 months to go! Hope you all have a lovely Christmas and New Year x

Well I'm another '12th of May' bride and seem to be doing quite well, at least according to everyone else that is - maybe I'm just impatient and too organised for others!

Got engaged 2nd week of October this year and so far have following sourced: Church, Reception Venue, Cars, Photographer, My Dress, Bridemaids Dresses, Invitiations and Order of Services designed by a friend - and fingers crossed these will be going to print first couple of weeks in Jan! Aim is to put them all together and have them mailed out by the end of Jan with an RSVP of 10th March.

Our vicar seems really organised as we booked our two appointments to meet with her in the new year, the same day we booked the church back in October!

Make-up sourced, my hair sorted and Bridesmaids have a trial up-do appointment next week! Meeting with the florist first week in Jan and then our cake lady the weekend after!

Just suits, rings and finer details I think to source now!

Actually after typing out all the above - do seem to have done a fair bit in the last 10 weeks! ?

Looking forward to a little bit of an Xmas rest!
