May 2013 wedding, where do I even start??

NaomiNicole13, 18 February, 2012 at 22:13 Posted on Planning 0 3

Hi all,

Getting married 5th May 2013 hopefully, because we want a spring wedding, but I haven't got a clue where to start. I'm 21 and my fella is 22 so we're pretty young but know we want it (plus I want his babies, gorgeous green eyes).

Where do I start? We'll have a small budget but he's just got a new job with a pretty good salary so we might be able to stretch to £10,000 with the help of parents and the job I have lined up for when I graduate. It won't pay that greatly so we really need to think about budget.

I want to get married in Leicester because it's between my family and his, but he typically doesn't care. He wants to wear his tartan (which is blue, green and gold) so what do we do next??

Haven't got a clue what dress I want so I'd like some help please, with literally everything you can help me with. Where do I start?

1 word of advice dont try to do too much yourself i tried doing all my centrepieces favours place cards table numbers etc etc myself and drove myself insane gave up in the end and found an amazing woman that does decor packages for really good prices not too far from you near derby. Plus check ebay for your wedding dress choice i got mine for £1200 from a shop in derby and found it on ebay for £750! gutted lol

    First of all, Congratulations!!!

Secondly, we're getting married in April 2013 so we're on the same time scale and we've got a similar budget! We started with our guest list, just a rough guide so we could understand what sort of sized venue we'd need. We've got approx 65 for the day and another 50 in the evening. Then, we had a chat with each other as to what we really wanted and what we could do without. So my H2B is dead set on having a flash car (for him, I'm getting ready at the venue) and that's been budgetted for and I'm only having two bridesmaids and no floral centrepieces to keep costs down. I've also budgeted £1,000 for my dress but I'm hoping to get it for quite a bit less than that.

The biggest piece of advice I can give you is to haggle. Our venue wanted to charge us £750 for "ceremony hire", even though we'd be getting married in a section of the overall space we were hiring and it wasn't like they could hire it out otherwise. I got them to knock £200 off. They also tried to charge me to keep a room free for me to get ready in....they're now reserving the bridal suite, free of charge. I am a natural born blagger....I have no shame!

Best of luck and enjoy the experience, don't let people try to take over your big day and don't panic, it will all come together : )

    Firstly congratulations!

    We're getting married 28th May 2013.

I think the first thing you need to decide is the budget, and the number of guest you want to invite. Then think about the type of wedding you want ie civil ceremony, registra office or church wedding. From there you can start looking at venues.

Venues and tog's (photographers) tend to get booked up first so if you are definite on the date then best to get these sorted first. They will require a deposit with their booking.

If you have a look at the top right of this website thre is a to do list which is very good, although I found the dates to do things by to close to the actual wedding compared to how quick things are getting booked up.

Re the dress, I did'nt have a clue. Went and tried a few styles on and found out what I did not want then found my dream dress. My dress is taking 4mths to order in, I think other designers take longer not sure, but something to consider.

Most important thing is don't get overwhelmed by it all, break it down into steps and enjoy the planning stage as I have been told it passes all to quickly!
