Meal Tasting :)

Miss-b, 3 May, 2016 at 10:39 Posted on Planning 0 17

We went for our meal tasting session yesterday and had a really great time! We have made our choices for the day and we are really happy with them. We have gone for:

Starter - Melon fan with fruit puree.

Main - Slow roasted pork loin steak served on creamed potatoes infused with grain mustard and roasted root vegetables.

Desert - White chocolate and raspberry cheesecake served with mango coulis.

We hope that most people will like what we have picked, if not they can eat the free bread!!

Both h2b and I are really fussy eaters, but we'd eat all of that Smiley smile

    Can we come? Smiley tongue

    How exciting! Smiley smile

All sounds lovely! One big job to tick off the list too! Smiley smile

We've got a choice of 4 caterers we can choose with our venue so we're meeting them all at the moment for tasting sessions - it's really difficult though as we're going a bit off-piste to know what to go for! I'm enjoying the process though! Smiley laugh

Oh that sounds lovely. I think you'll find even if people wouldn't order it, they'd eat most of it because a) they'll go hungry, b) it's not polite.

    This sounds lush Smiley smile

We weren't allowed to go for a menu tasting Smiley sad We had quite a strict budget, so the venue came up with a menu that fitted that budget- bit annoying!

That menu sounds lovely ? I'd happily eat that!

We're going for our tasting session this evening. We've chosen the caterer and a vague idea of the menu, so it's just to check that we like it all, see the presentation, choose sides and canapés etc. I'm so excited! I'm having a tiny lunch in preparation.

I'm really pleased that everyone has said it sounds nice, as you do worry about pleasing everyone, but we were really happy! It was really nice going and getting to try everything, there were a few other couples there also testing! Makes it all seem very real now haha!

Your menu sounds lovely! Especially the pudding.

Do you mind me asking if you had to pay extra for the tasting? Our venue is asking us to pay extra and we have to go with their catering (that part I don't mind, but I'm going to pay them thousands in the summer i expected free food tasting!)

That sounds like a divine menu to me! I'd eat everything and anything anyone else didn't want ?

I don't think we get to have a 'tasting' sadly- I'd have liked to but as far as I know our venue doesn't do them- but they do get a very good reputation for their food, so I'm just keeping everything crossed their reputation is deserved and working on the basis that if the food isn't great, no one will complain 'cause no one wants to upset a bride!! ?

For ours the tasting costs 50% of the per-head meal cost. I'm a bit disappointed with that tbh, especially as the other venue we nearly went with included a tasting free of charge! I don't think h2b actually knows yet that we're having to pay... he won't be happy!

Our tasting will be free but that is only because we are deviating from the set menu and paying extra for people to choose what they would like to eat. If we stuck with the set menu, we would have to pay for it x

Our Meal Tasting is free, but we can bring extra guests (like our parents) for £29.00 a head.

The package costs us £100 a head.

I think we've been really lucky with our venue as our menu tasting was complimentary and we both essentially had a 3 course meal with wine (only sips for me as I was driving!)

The meals are coming in I think around £45 per head, so not really expensive compared to others! I do think its a bit unfair to ask Brides and Grooms to pay for the menu tasting as you are already giving them so much money for the wedding and for what it probably costs them for the meal, I think they could offer it free.

We've been so pleased with our venue so far and they have been really accommodating!

Sounds great don't forget to get people's dietary requirements/vegetarians :-)

Sorry to sounds obvious but I'm gluten intolerant and I've been to weddings before where they have forgot to cater this (but still tried to charge the bride and groom for a meal which couldn't be eaten despite being told in advance as it would have made me very ill!)

I loved our food tasting we had a private caterer who drove from Brighton to my MIL house in Cambridge to give us a free tasting of his Paella's before he would accept our booking :-)

No not forgotten about dietary requirements/allergies/veggies/vegans etc.. We are asking people to specify if there is anything and then we can accommodate accordingly Smiley smile

We had 4 to choose from too. And went to all 4 tastings! What's your venue? Maybe it's the same as ours! Kingscote Barn...?

Sounds delish! I'm looking forward to our tasting sessions, won't be until early next year though haha. We only have 2 deviants to the main menu... My mum needs gluten free & one of my bridesmaids is veggie. The latter though likes to know exactly how everything is cooked to be sure it's truly veggie so I worry she just won't eat!

Then there's my Dad who has incredibly high expectations when it comes to food & has been known to kick off if not right (think Gordon Ramsey!)... I'm hoping we can buy extra places to the tasting so he can test as well in a safer setting lol!

    Tis all fun Smiley smile
