We didn't take anything when we went.

The vicar took all our details and just asked about our connection to the church (we live outside the parish), and the biggie, why we want to get married!!lol Then he talked a bit and walked us through how a service usually works and the costs and things. He gave us a copy of the vows and some other paperwork to have a look at (hymn and reading suggestions etc)

Should mention that we have chosen this church not our church as ours will be a building site when we get married as its having an extension! We havent decided to get married in a random church for no reason! lol!

Lol, I wouldn't want to get married in a building site either. Your mum being in the parish should be enough of a link I would have thought. The church we are using was my grandparents' church and it's where their parents and grandparents are buried and our vicar was happy with that.

Don't be too nervous (easier said than done!!) I was worried about ours but the vicar was so nice it was just really positive ?

Also, forgot to say he suggested that it would be good if we went along occasionally and we are going to one service every two months which he is absolutely fine with (thank goodness, didn't fancy getting up early every sunday for almost a year!!lol)

    Thanks guys.

Jem - thats good every other month, I was worried he would tell us we would have to go every week which would be impossible as we both work every sunday so we can afford the wedding lol!

Still trying to perfect the answer to 'why do you want to get married'...im sure oh will steal the show with that one though, he can be very soppy when it comes to questions like that! ?

Oooh hunny I am afraid I have no idea about this as we are having a civil ceremony. Whilst we had to take things to prove our identity and stuff we didnt have any of the 'why do you want to get married' questions (which I would have quite enjoyed I think!) and it was over really quickly! We did however have questions that made me feel like I was an illegal immigrant marrying for a visa or something!! Ha.

Anyway...hope it goes well and let us know what he says

Wish my OH would be a bit more soppy, he's another one that goes a bit shy!!lol. He just kind of looked at me to answer that one and chipped in at the very end!!

Let us know how you get on Moya, I'm sure it will all be ok ?

It will be fine I'm sure. I got myself really nervous about it (I've been married before but the less said of that the better ?) and it is really important to me and OH to get married in church.

When it comes to the question of "why do you want to get married?" and also "why in church" speak from the heart, be open and honest and you will have no problems.

For me I said that I believe that God helps us to make new beginnings having learnt from our past mistakes(referring to my previous marriage). And that OH and I have found our soulmate in each other and it is important to us that when we make our vows to be together for the rest of our lives we do so in the eyes of God. Also that in D I have found my other half, our relationship and family life (with my daughter from my first marriage) is so special it means the world to us to be married in church.

And that is from my heart and exactly how we feel about it.

Our vicar was more than happy to agree to marry us in church.

We didn't have to take anything and they booked the date there and then, we got given a form to fill in and took it back a week later with the £50 deposit. They gave us examples of OOS, hymn choices etc etc.

Good luck - I'm sure you will be fine.

I would ask if it was OK to use the church for photography to cover the possibility of poor weather outside on the wedding day. Most will be happy with this if primed beforehand although often are less happy if asked on the day(as this affects others too like vergers etc)
