I'm sorry if this is being a bit stalkerish but did you hear back after the interview?

    Thanks you ladies ?

I know, I know! It's just that so many people would do anything for a place, and here I am being handed one and I don't know what to do.

The interview didn't go great and I never expected to be accepted, it's all been a bit of a shock.

I found out while at the circus on Friday 18th, so have been living a dilemma for a couple of weeks ?

Pittabre - it starts on 19th August, so if I fell pregnant now I would be due in October...I don't think that would be realistic? I'm hoping that maybe they would allow me to defer entry until next year, but that's probably totally unrealistic.

You have got yourself a bit of a problem! Do you have to have worked there for so long to get their maternity package as well?

It might sound a bit fatalistic but couldn't you wait until nearer the time to decide? You have 7 and a bit months to decide either way.

It's to go to Uni to retrain (I'm currently in finance) so it means quitting my secure stable job to be a full time student. Amazing opportunity but very scary!

Yes, I have accepted the place for now, it is conditional on my exam results next month anyway. If I fall pregnant soon then hopefully I can defer entry until next year, if not then I will go in August. I'm just worried that they wont allow me to defer, which would mean that I've missed out on a huge opportunity.

However your deferment would be based on a condition which is gender based and to refuse would be discrimination under the gender discrimination act...

MY - thats amazing, massive congratulations!!!

I know what you mean about TTC....but honestly you cant put your life on hold. You need to think long term here - school holidays off with little one, secure well paid job etc. You dont know when you will fall pregnant.

Thats how I am about my pending new job - its for my / our future and will benefit everyone including our family.

Its sucks being not really TTC at the moment, some days its heartbreaking but I need to look at the bigger picture, everything for a reason, blah blah.

I'm not sure if it would though, as I would have fallen pregnant after I was accepted and therefore it's my own fault, surely?

I know, but this is cycle 8 of TTC, we just can't bring ourselves to stop. Even more so now because it's cycle 8, and there is of course a worry that there could be a reason why it's taking so long.

*Pittabre - could you please update the title to add (BT related), just don't want to upset anyone now that the thread has taken this turn.*

Did you not have a Christmas night out disaster just before your interview?!

It's such a tricky situation lovely. I have no advice to offer. TTC is the reason I've not applied for any new jobs whilst desperately wanting to. Contrary to what other people have said I decided to put my life on hold for 12 months as and then if no baby then start persuing a different job etc. I actually had an interview for a job with the commonwealth games but knocked it back. I decided TTC was my priority in the short term although it was far from an easy decision. I think you need to make a decision and be at peace with whatever the consquences might be (i.e. not getting a deferred place). xxx

We'll be a year in May & my POA is go back to Doc in May or hopefully whatever it is will be sorted so that towards end of year I can fall pregnant & get the full maternity package. Im probably being extremely optimistic & of course you've had 8 'real' cycles whereas Im now on my 5th 'real' cycle.

Only you know whats right for you....

? Wahahaha, so I did...and I was worried about the huge bruise at my interview *face palm moment*

Eh, Sweetpea - just how long have you been lurking exactly? ?

I know, that's the internal battle I am having. We are still doing exactly what we were last month so we have in no way stopped trying. It's just knowing that I will need to make a choice at some point, it's scary!

Sorry SaSaSi - I don't know your background. Are you still currently TTC? My cycles average 27days, so we've only been trying since July. For me it's two years of continuous TTC before I would be considered for tests of any kind.

See its different for you, you are having regular cycles so really you could fall any month!

Have had blood tests done, scan of ovaries & kidneys but they didnt show anything. PCOS runs in my family & since coming off pill my weight has ballooned, my skin erupted, the most disgusting greasy hair and of course lack / irregular periods. Im kind of resigned to the fact that i'll need help - I think this is why Im a bit more - 'put yourself and job first' as I could be waiting years for it to happen whereas your lucky month could be just around the corner.

Because my new jobs carries out health checks Ive not gone back to Doc as I dont want there to be any current investigations. I know they cant discriminate against me for it but I wouldnt want them to know about TTC and then find another reason! I over think things. lol.

Im not sure what the procedures are in NI but my doctor was very good & because hes a family doctor & knows the history he started straight away with me. As soon as May comes / I get started Im going back to him to get the ball rolling.

I am sure getting pregnant cannot be held against you, the university will have to assist you and give you maternity leave. I am re-training to be a nurse and people get pregnant (l knew a girl who started the course pregnant), go to give birth and on maternity leave. They then come back to re-join the course at the point they left and complete the course. Legally the university would be in serious trouble if they didn't.

Thanks Ladies - you are all fab!

Totally get where you are coming from SaSaSi - makes perfect sense. I'm in Glasgow, but when I was at the docs at Christmas for some antibiotics for the lurgy he asked about the TTC situation (as there was a note to say that I came off the pill in July). I explained that we were doing everything that we 'should' be, and that I had regular cycles, but it just hadn't happened yet. He scanned through my notes, and said that given my age (24) and health, it would be two years of TTC before they would do anything. Regardless, I'm optimistic that it will happen for us without intervention...if the average time it takes is six months, there has to be some that take longer to bring the average up.
