I'm sorry if this is being a bit stalkerish but did you hear back after the interview?

    The average?

ETA: As far as I can find online (not the best source, I know) the average for a woman in her early twenties is 4 - 5 months.

9month course? Well, just try not to get knocked up until the first week and you'll be fine, lol.

in all seriousness, congrats on getting this opportunity.

TTC is one of those things that can take a while, or happen fast. In my NCT group it was a real mix, including one couple who pretty much gave up ttc, went on holiday, got very drunk, and bingo! They now have a baby! Life is what happens when you make other plans!

I know, but realistically I need to also consider whether I could complete a highly demanding course at 8 months pregnant. It is compared to having a full time job plus being at Uni full time (done that), it's Masters level, and ideally I would want a part time evening job (waitressing or bar work) to help pay the mortgage. There is also a probation year immediately afterwards, but I hope that can be defered?

Aside from that, I'm more concerned about what would happen if I fell pregnant in July, for example - as I wouldn't be able to start the course, and nor would I be able to the following year, if that makes sense.

My other worry is that I fall pregnant now but they wont let me defer, but I'll cross that bridge when I come to it.

    Well done MY!!

I think you are correct about 5/months being average.

With regard to chances of conceiving, if everything is just so, in your 20s you have 25% chance of conceiving each cycle. Or 75% of not conceiving. So by the laws of probability there is an 83% you will have conceived in 6 months. And 86% chance if conceiving in 7, and 89% chance of conceiving in 8 months, etc etc etc (ok those fingers were pulled frommemory, but someone can work out 0.75x0.75x0.75x0.75x0.75x0.75 and take it away from 100 etc if they are feeling picky). That means that 1 in 10 won't have conceived in 9 months, but 9 in ten would have. Not really sure where the GP got 13 months from, maybe he was trying to fob you off P ;-)

But Ducky that assumes that every month you don't conceive increases the chance of you conceiving the following month? Surely it is still 25% every month?

I've been wondering about this but didn't want to ask on FB. Congratulations MY!!!

One of my best friends at uni got pregnant when we were in our final year of our masters. It wasn't a planned pregnancy but the university were great at supporting her and let her split her final exams over two semesters so she would have enough time to study properly while looking after her baby. If you did get upduffed while at uni I'm sure they would help you get through, they wouldn't need to know that you were trying to get pregnant (not that it should make a difference).

When I did my PGCE, our tutor looked around the room of 24 girls (we were a small group cos we were doing Early Years PGCE rather than Primary) and said "before the end of this course, at least 1 of you will be pregnant, it happens every year" We were all a bit stunned and I think looked around thinking "it won't be me!" (no-one confessed to trying anyway). Needless to say, one of us was!

And I want to say you get 5 years to complete your NQT year after you qualify-unless things have changed since I did it (though we didn't get long to complete our QTS Eng/Maths/ICT exams)

Hope all works out for you on both counts

Thank you for that, really good to know. Can I ask, do you know what happened to the girl who fell pregnant, did she complete the course?

Yep, she did - I think she was around 5 months when we finished so obviously wasn't looking for jobs for the September like the rest of us! Her little boy is 3 now - I think she's planning on working again when he starts school. She'd still have another year to complete her NQT year. So cutting it fine but do-able!
