Menfolk - what are you wearing?

What have you chosen to wear on the day? Was it your decision or a point of discussion between you both? Care to flash your outfits? (I know BespokeTailor Marc had something pretty snazzy). Ladies, did you get involved, express a preference or leave it to your OH? It seems that often us ladies get a free rein but the chaps don't.

CC, are you having a nice new suit or using one you have already?

In answer to OP... My OH hasn't thought about what he's wearing yet - apart from that he wants it to be traditional. He also says that i'm not allowed to know what he'll be wearing, which i think is nice. I'll get a clue on the day when I see my brother all dressed up though!

I think my MIL2B will go with him to choose, or maybe BM. Either way I'll make sure they have some swatches of the colours so they can decided what goes with it best

In all my experience of attending weddings, everyone ALWAYS comments on how nice the groom and 'the boys' look so I am not sure what weddings you've been going to AJ!

As for us, I left it up to OH to decide what he actually wants to wear...we are having a pretty informal beach wedding so top hat & tails, and even a full suit, would look ridiculous, and TBH it just isn't my OH's style at all so he is wearing a really nice Animal Classic shirt with brown and cream patterns on it (which purely coincidently will match my cream dress with bronze beading perfectly!) with some nice chinos and we have co-ordinated the best man and ushers in a Joe Brown's blue and white patterned shirt and off-white chinos with the blue dresses the BM's will be wearing.

My OH has said he wants to wear a tux and has had no input from me (nor asked for any help yet either)

At first I was a bit ? because dinner jackets aren't "the done thing" before 6pm are they? Also he'll almost never get the chance to wear it again (he wants it made to measure or bespoke)

However we're having a small chic city wedding in the centre of Rome in late afternoon (hopefully) with the breakfast at a classy resaurant and our pics taken around the famous Roman sights so TBH I don't think it will look too out of place (she says hopefully) I'm going to be wearing a long, figure skimming (not tight but not pouffy) ivory gown so I'm hoping we'll look well matched, will have to get some mood boards etc done I think ?

I'm afraid I've chosen the lot. Oh isn't fussed and gave ms full rein although I think he would have said something if he wasn't happy. He is definitely going to get comments though because he will look so handsome. Even though he wears suits every day with the waistcoat cravat and tails he'll look even more lush!

My H2B chose his own suits.

I'm sorry to say that it won't be my H2B that will cause me to possibly well up when I see him in his suit - it will be seeing my son for the first time in a suit. I have no idea what he looks like in it and won't until he knocks on my hotel room door, once we're both dressed...

Sounds like there are going to be some pretty handsome chaps out there!

I must agree, I've never heard a groom go without compliments on his wedding day. I do recall that point being made to aj several times before though! My brother told my husband that he looked very handsome and then proceeded to tell me that I scrubbed up ok!

Mr CB decided on his outfit but asked for guidance as to the colour of ties etc. He was also responsible for the colour of our flowers too! I thought he looked pretty dapper, I must say!

To be fair, I think most guys look handsome in a suit, so the groom's always going to get compliments.

My brother had top hat and tails for his wedding, and there was a conversation going that people should start wearing top hats in day to day life! ?

Thank you! As resident menswear expert I was thinking of messaging you to ask your opinion :-) Actually what are your thoughts on including some colour with a DJ to tie in with theme (colour as yet undecided)? Obviously the bow tie should still be black shouldn't it?

My OH wanted to wear this to get married in ever since SATC 1 came out! He has made me promise not to tell anyone (IRL) where he got the idea from though cos he's too embarrassed.

He's asked me to go with him because he doesn't have anyone else to go suit shopping with ☹️

Jenny, I think the thing that appeals to me about a dinner suit for a wedding is the simplicity. Just black and white in my opinion. Maybe a slightly (not too) shiney fabric, a nice quality venetian fabric, well fitted and tailored. Maybe a dress waistcoat (but not coloured) a simple dress vest or double breasted smoking waistcoat.

I maybe the resident menswear guru but some of the ladies on here have fantastic taste and I am reasonably sure they would agree that a dinner suit should be black and white only (reasonably sure ?) .

What about a coloured lining to the suit? You won't see it as such but might be a nice touch?

You could always add colour in the button hole too.

Thanks for your reply :-) TBH I completely agree with you about the simplicity of it, looking so clean and classy but my only thought was that it is a spring wedding (May 2013) and all other weddings seem to have a colour scheme. I guess it's different us having a city rather than garden type wedding though ?
