Mens Trainers - any recommendations?

Mrs S Smith, 22 June, 2009 at 13:04 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 4

Hi all,

I want to get H some new trainers as part of his (just gone) birthday present, he's currently using some cheapo Tescos one, which are doing the trick fine, but I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations?

I'd like to get him some running trainers which are sturdy.. He's got a bad ankle from when he was run over 3 years ago, so I was wondering if there are any trainers that are uber-supportive to be low impact, etc? Or should he get a sturdy ankle support instead?

He wants to start up a fitness regime again, so I'm going to suggest we do the Bupa Runnung together.. whether we get round to it or not is a different thing, mind ?

My H & I have great trainers, but we go to a proper running shop, where they tried us with several pairs, and watched us jog up and down the road to see how they wore. I can't emphasize enough what a difference that made, and would recommend doing that rather than a specific brand of trainers, particularly as he needs extra support.

    ? Carrie74 - that's really helpful.

Where did you go? The only place I've seen that do the foot testing is in London, but could there be other ones around the country, Cambridgeshire to be exact?

Check out local independant sports shops as some of them do this I know our one does

sweatshop is a national chain that also do this I'd definitely recommend you get them fitted properly makes a huge difference, you can always make him a voucher to say you'll buy the trainers once he has chosen them

Ours was an independednt running shop in Bristol - I'd do as Sairedy suggests and find one locally - it was nothing fancy - no machines, just a look at our feet as we jogged up and down the road.

And meant to say, they sell you the right shoe, not the one that gets them the best commission, which is a relief, and meant my trainers weren't that expensive relatively. And if you're not happy, you can take them back.

    Good luck!
