Menu choices

amee, 23 July, 2009 at 18:11 Posted on Planning 0 10

Hey

Was wondering if anyone would mind sharing their menu's with me?

Had the draft ones from the venue and I don't like them so they said to draft something up and pop in and see them.... well, actually my mum will go and see them as I'm a good few hundred miles away.

Everything was just too fancy for our tastes.

Thanks in advance.

Amee

Mine is probably not something you would copy to be honest!

For a starter we are having soup (leek and potato or french onion, haven't chosen yet)

Main course is real pie, mash and liquor (with veggie/vegan options)

Dessert is dutch appeltart with cream

As I'm a londoner, and he is dutch, seemed like a good idea to us

To be honest fizl, it sounds lovely!

I'm really awkward as I don't eat potatoes or rice or anything with wheat in. Can't have most shellfish or turnip as they all make me feel ill.

The menu that they gave my mum would probably have been lovely for other people but we just want a really nice, well cooked, normal meal.

One of the choices for after the starter was a gin and tonic sorbet!?!?!?!? I'm I just really behind the times or is that a bit out there?

I love the idea of sorbet but gin and tonic??? Yuk! Mind you, maybe thats because I had a bad experience after too many gins!! :o)

Can I ask a quick question, I have been looking at sample menu's for a few venues we are considering and was wondering if it is the norm to have only one item for every course? Does anyone else think this is strange or is it just me?

For main we are going for bangers, mash & roasted root veg. For starter probably something light like some sort of salad - maybe a chicken salad. For pudding either something like panna cotta, creme brulee or a trio of 3 different mini desserts.

I'm the only non meat eater at the wedding so I think I will have a crayfish salad to start and something mushroomy for main.

We get married at 1pm and sitting down for 4pm - I think we will go quite heavy on the canapes in case people haven't had a late enough breakfast!

LL - some venues let you choose more than 1 option per course & you generally get the guests preferences in advance with their RSVP.

    Hi

We found that alot of places were only giving one choice but this venue are going to give two choices which we prefer, esp as we are all a bit awkward!!

    Smiley smile

I think it is difficult to just give one options as people do have varying tastes and dietary requirements.

We have found the same, however I have argued with them and insisted on 2 options for the main + a vege option..... I am vegetarian, my partner is vegy but eats fish, and my dad loves red meat. Ultimately the venue is insisting that we use their caterer and we are paying for the most overpriced meal ever for 100+ people, I think we should be able to expect a little choice! We are going for an option of fish, meat or vege for the main and asking everyone to let us know with the RSVPs what they want. Its the one thing I have been a tad bridezillaish on!

We had choices for the starter and main as we just didn't like to only offer one choice and cost per head was only about £3 each and I think a extra few hundred on top of what we were already spending was worth it to ensure everyone had a good meal and one they liked.

    So anyway we had

Melon or Soup (can't remember what kind as I don't like either)

Steak Pie or Supreme of Chicken stuffed with haggis in a whiskey cream sause

    Strawberry and Rasberry Torte

There was also a veg dish available to everyone.

We attended a wedding last year and no one had a choice on what they were having, it was an ok meal but the only thing I didnt like was there was no childs menu, so my daughter had to have the same, she didnt really like it so she was very hungry towards the evening.

We are very lucky, our venue has said we can give people a choice of two items, so for starters there is Melon with Parma Ham, scented peach and cream cheese, second choice is ceassar salad

The mains are Duck or Roast Beef woth yorkshire puds

Vege option is stir fry or Tortellini

And dessert is either Lemon Tart or Chocolate Tart

There is a seperate childrens menu with a great choice.

They have been fantastic and are bending over backwards to accomadate us. Hope you find the perfect menu, good luck.

    Thanks for all the replies.

Sat down (over the phone) with mam last night and drafted up the following:

Starters: either pea and ham soup or a tomato (poss with something, not sure what)

    then a lemon sorbet

Mains: Either Beef with a mustard crust and roasted seasonal veg or Chicken supreme stuff with either black pudding or haggis

Puddings: a mixed berry pavlova with passionfruit coulis or profiteroles each avaiable with ice cream or cream

    Coffee to follow.

    What do you all think?

Oh btw, this is for NYE! Somebody suggested doing a festive menu but I think by that point everyone will have had their fill of turkey and christmas pud!

I think you are right about everyone having their fill of turkey and christmas pud, having something different would be a pleasant change I would think.

Great Menu, theres something for everyone.
