Menu Choices

Mrs C, 8 January, 2011 at 17:38 Posted on Planning 0 17

Well we each get a full 3 course menu tasting at our venue and have come up with the following choices to try for each course... what do you think? We need to pick one option for each course (plus veggie options and childrens options - think we only have one veggie so I am just going to let her choose from the menu!)

Starter

A Pressed Duck and Pork Terrine with Port soaked Apricots and toasted Raisin and Rosemary Bread

and

Chicken, Champage and Truffle Parfait with Brioche and Onion Jam

Main

Supreme of Maize Fed Chicken wrapped with Sage and Sweetcured Bacon & filled with Wild Mushroom and Spinach Mousse. Served on Garlic and Thyme crushed Potatoes

and

Roast Sirloin of Beef with Panchetta, Pearl Onions, Chestnut Mushrooms and Horseradish Potato Puree

Dessert

Duo of Belgian Chocolate Cheesecake

and

White Chocolate and Raspberry Teardrop Torte

Mmm the mains and puds all sound amazing. but i have a phobia of ofal or any meaty things made into mousse/terrine so would not be keen on the starters, but that's just me - i know most people like them!

i can't wait to confirm our venue and arrange the tasting! got to be a wedding planning highlight! Smiley smile

I thought the starters may be the contraversial bit... hence the opinion gathering!!!

It's H2B's favourite though so he is stamping his feet for pate!

I really like the sound of both starters - but then I LOVE LOVE pate in any shape or form!! I do know its not to everyones taste though....because we are debating this being one of our starter options too.

Main - I would probably choose the beef, and the pudding well both would be amazing but the cheesecake is my guilty pleasure so it has to be the belgian chocolate cheesecake

Not long to go now Mrs C, Have you got much left to organise??

Loads!!!! 10 weeks today and we still have to decide on the hymns, readings, witnesses and music for the church, bridesmaids dresses, invitations, suits, honeymoon, all other stationary, DJ, cars....

Been a busy bee this week but loads to be doing!!!

I love pate too (in fact had it on toast for lunch!) but I know its not for everyone!

Chicken is normally that "safer" option but we love a good beef roast dinner!!!

I am torn between trying to please everyone for dinner and thinking, hmmm what would I like to eat!!!

You make me feel ever so normal now!!! We still have all the bits for the church like you, suits, my fittings, hair and make up trials, all other reception stationary, dj to confirm, menu choices, honeymoon, the list goes on and on....

Your not too far from me are you, where are you thinking for the suit hire? I want H2b in either a dark ish silvery grey suit or something similar and Im struggling to find hire places that do it.

Who have you gone with for hair and make up?

I know how you feel, I keep thinking ooo i know so and so doesnt like that sort of food, maybe I shouldnt have it to then thinking hang on its OUR day what would I like to eat?!!

We are not hiring - H2B has seen some lovely slim fit suits in Next, in grey... think they were about £110 for 3 piece suits and they looked really well cut.

Make-up I am doing myself (with the help of the girls in the benefit store who helped me spend £85!!!) and hair I think is being done by a friend of a friend who did my friends wedding last year... although she hasn't told me how much yet!!!

I love benefit make up, Ive got the primer roll stick and the round pot concealer. Best buys ive had for make up!

Ooo I didnt even think about looking in Next for some reason, theres a possibility we may go down the buying route because we only have H2b, the best man and 2 ushers to get for Smiley smile

Just been looking at your hair pictures in one of your mood boards, how did you google for them? Im not quite finding the right thing - Im after curly styles with pearl pins in or diamante ones like the flowers you have found.

Combination of google images and words like wedding hair curly flower or wedding hair loose curls... things like that... oh yes and "borrowing" from hitched!!!

Sometimes it easier just to google fewer words and spend longer scrolling!

Sounds yummy. My only concern would be that the parfait and terrine are IMO very similar and if someone were to not like say terrine it is unlikely that they would like parfait??

I would probably have one of them and then have the second as something a bit different. I guess you will have the vegetarian option for starter too though so that would be an option for someone who didnt like them

Good menu though - wish my takeaway would hurry up am starving!

Maybe I didn't explain that right... we get to taste 2 dishes from each course, then we choose one. Guests dont get an option, only between veggie and non-veggie.

I'm just not sure if parfait/terrine will be suitable enough for everyone (excluding veggies obviously) or if we should have it anyway because we want it!!!

I think you should have what you want. If someone really didnt want it then they could have the veggie choice even if not a veggie ?

It's not necessarily a case of choosing what you want for the menu, you do have to think about your guests too. If you choose something you love but isn't mainstream or a bit of an aquired taste then there's the potential that a lots of people won't like the meal and then you're paying for meals that aren't being eaten.

I ❤️ goats cheese and really wanted a goats cheese starter but I know loads of my friends don't like it so wouldn't have eaten it which to me was a complete waste of money.

We ended up with a menu we thought sounded really yummy and a little exotic (starter was "a gallette of aunergene and chorizo with smoked mozzarella" - or something along those lines). We didn't get a tasting menu so the first time we saw what the dish was was on the day and it was absoloutely amazing (a kinda tarte thing and you'd never have known there were aubergenes in it!).

Anyway - back to your menu... I'm not keen to be honest. I hate mushrooms and offal...

Thanks GB... maybe we'll have to go back to the drawing board... and rethink the pate... or order one specially for H2B!!
