Menu choices

JuliaTaff, 1 December, 2012 at 07:21 Posted on Planning 0 8

Hi hitchers!

Was wondering if you could help me out. At our venue, we get to offer our guests a choice of 2 menus... they choose their food on their rsvp. As such, A and I get to go for a 'menu tasting' on 13th, and have to choose a menu each to try. A had no problem choosing what he would like, but I'm struggling to find a menu which balances his and offers our guests the best choice... I'm a great fish lover and would choose salmon, but am wondering whether I should choose chicken to 'play it safe' for my guests, or is that boring? I wondered if you could help me!! A has chosen smoked chicken to start, lamb for main and eton mess for dessert - could you help me pick a second menu to offer our guests from the following... (I should also say, that vegetarians are offered a third choice)

Starters:

Marinated Salmon topped with Dill, Cucumber, Sesame, Soy and Coriander Salad

Smoked chicken, Crisp Pancetta and Parmesan Salad, Caesar Dressing

Parmesan Basket of Roasted Vegetables, Basil Dressing

Baked Red Onion and Goat's Cheese Tartlet, Baby Rocket, Beetroot Dressing (v)

Mains:

Breat of Corn-fed Chicked, Creamed Pea, Asparagus and Pearl Barley, Tarragon Jus

Fillet of Salmon, Buttered Spinach, New Potatoes, Lemon Butter Sauce

Slow Roasted Leg of Lamb, Creamed Leeks, Roasted New Potatoes, Peas and Broad Beans, Mint Jus

Creamed Wild Mushroom and Tarragon Tartlet, Berkswell Cheese, Baby Vegetables (v)

Tian of Roast Vegetables Glazed with Goat's Cheese, Pesto Cream Sauce (v)

Salad of Roast Artichokes, Tomate, New Potatoes, Cucumber Dressing (v)

Desserts:

Tuille Basket of Summer Fruit, Raspberry Sorbet, Champagne Sabayon

Glazed Lemon Tart, Yoghurt Sorbet

Strawberry Parfait, Pimms-soaked fruit, Lemonade Foam

Eton Mess, Strawberry Sorbet

Dark Chocolate Tartlet, Orange Sorbet

Vanilla Panna Cotta, Pink Grapefruit, Orange, Lemon Yoghurt Sorbet

Summer Fruit Pudding, Cornish Clotted Cream Ice Cream

Iced Vanilla Parfait, Passion Fruit Syrup, Fresh Raspberries

I've put in bold what A has chosen - can you help me?!!

Lots of Love, the most indecisive person in the world!! xxx ?

Well I say if you love fish to salmon if someone has an issue with both salmon and fish they can have the veg option. I also put in a vote for chocolate tartlet sounds yummy. Can I come I want to eat your food?!

Like the OP, if you like salmon then I would choose it. Most people would like lamb or salmon...and you even have the veg choice if they don't x

Aw thanks everyone! Really appreciate your advise! My Mum has thrown her opinion into the mix and reckons the venue might smell fishy if I go for the salmon? Aaaargh! Just when I thought I'd go for what we want, my Mum complicates things!! I reckon I'll go for the salmon for our tasting and see what it's like - like you say, people can always go veggie if they don't like it! xxx

ps. Loving the Christmas themed avatars! I'd be feeling much more festive if I wasn't in work!! ?

vintagedreams - I think the chocolate tartlet too - I'm a chocoholic! Your name suggests that you'll be going for a similar theme to me - I'm hoping to pull off a nice traditional wedding with a vintage theme - how far along are you with your planning?! I'm struggling to decide on favours - have you sorted yours yet?

I'm going traditional with a vintage twist- lace, birdcages, vintage suitcases etc in ice pink, ivory and chocolate brown. All the big things are done now so I'm just onto the crafty touches and then a few things I can't do till nearer time. We are doing homemade chutney in little jars with pink/ brown polka dot fabric over the lids and little luggage labels on them. Thanks to my job I get three weeks off before the wedding so I have plenty of time to make it :-)

I'd say the vegetable basket, the chicken and the chocolate tart.

I love salmon but I know so many people who don't (even people that like other fish).

Mmmmmm reading this is making me very hungry!

I'd say go for the salmon if it's what you fancy - with a lamb & a veggie option there's enough choice for anyone who isn't a fish/salmon fan. And if you're looking for a balance in your meal, you've already got chicken in one of your starters.
