Menu tasting

*Pugsley*, 4 August, 2013 at 16:41 Posted on Planning 0 7

Heya,

I'm having a Sunday afternoon ponder.

Mine isn't for a little while but I was just wondering long before your wedding did you or are you having your menu & wine tasting?

Our wedding was on 1st June this year. We had our menu tasting mid-Feb and did our wine tasting at home (we provided our own) the same evening. We were allowed to take up to four other people to our tasting and I'm glad that did as we changed some our menu based on their comments!

Yeah, we get OH and I free so i think we'll pay extra for our mums to come as it'll be nice for them. Wine is included but I'm not sure how much they let us try or how it works really.

I think my venue did advise not to do it sooner than 6months before, which I understand otherwise you might change your mind.

I started thinking about people having food allergies and whether I'll need to bare that in mind or not when deciding... But I guess that if someone does say they are allergic to something we choose the venue will just change it or alter it?

Argh, I'm so clueless when it comes to this.

    Hi

We haven't been offered this Smiley sad we're having afternoon tea rather than a cooked meal. Do you think that's why?

Great idea to take your Mums. We took our best man, his wife and one of our ushers and his girlfriend and they all really enjoyed it. We tried two starters, two main courses and two puddings and we shared a few plates of each course between us. As we did the wine tasting ourselves at home, I can't help you on that one but I guess that you'd perhaps get a choice of a couple of reds and whites and perhaps a small glass of each? I had a horrible hangover after our wine tasting as I tried way too much of everything that we'd bought!

Don't worry about allergies as dishes can always be tailored to suit if you find that someone has an allergy once you have chosen your menu. We had someone with a mild nut allergy so the caterer just left the walnuts off his starter.

We're getting married in December. I really had no clue about menu tasting but my caterers asked us to attend last week, so that's 4 months before the big day!

I'll probably go for the 3-4 month mark. Prob more likely 4month as 3months before will be the time before Xmas and nye so maybe not the best idea for the hotel or us.

    Thanks guys!
