Metronidazole

*Mini*, 14 November, 2012 at 19:44 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 13

Now the box for the above named antibiotic tells me that I shouldn't drink whilst taking this or for 48 hours after finishing it.

Do we know this is the case for sure or is this one of those things where they tell you that you shouldn't drink but really you can ?

I'm pretty sure this is one of the ones you really can't drink on.

Most antibiotics don't mention alcohol in the leaflet anymore but I think drinking on these does cause pain etc...

You definitly can't drink with metronidazole. You will be violently sick if you do. I've been told that they give it to alcoholics as an incentive not to drink, not sure if that is true.

Sorry to jump in - I haven't posted much at all on here, but no you definitely can't drink. It has a chemical structure similar to that of antabuse (given to stop alcoholics drinking) so the alcohol reaction is pretty similar.

As above, don't ignore this one. Do not drink alcohol. At all.

Sometimes I make myself a gin and tonic without the gin. Nice glass, fresh lime, ice.

He has been fabulous. I can't fault him.

I wonder if alcohol free cider would work? You can get blue label kopperberg in tesco.
