Mexico - Honeymoon?

UnionJackDream, 23 November, 2011 at 13:00 Posted on Planning 0 23

Has anyone been to Mexico we are really interested in going there for our honeymoon. We have about £2000 (which is masses for us and we are still not 100% sure where this money is coming from!) but I wanted to be totally sure about the place before booking.

We have 2 options on hotels:

Catalonia Riviera Maya Resort and Spa 4*

or

Ocean Maya Royale by H10

Help!!

We went to Mexico for our honeymoon! Was amazing and we are now trying to figure out how we can get back there! We atayyed at the Riu Tequila in Playa Del Carmen it was gorgeous. Ours was roughly 2 grand but should have been more (people we spoke to paid alot more but we only booked a week before we left!) We couldn't fault it and DESPERATELY want to go back!

We're in exactly the same situation! Really like the look of Mexico, particularly Riviera Maya. The most we'll really be able to pay is £1000 each which will be a combination of contributions as wedding gifts and then us being able to scrape together the rest.

I keep looking at places and have fallen in love with the likes of Excellence Riviera Cancun and the El Dorado Seaside Suites but both of these are well beyond our budget! (We'd idally like to go for 10 or 14 nights).

We're thinking of booking 3 weeks off work then going into a travel agents on the monday after the wedding and saying where can we go leaving in the next couple of days and keeping our fingers crossed for a super cheap deal to somewhere really nice. I think it could be quite exciting but also quite scary as I like to have everything planned!

I havent been but my mum has had a few hols there and says it is out of this world. I really want to go now! Little Madam also had her honeymoon there if shes about, or shout her. She did a honeymoon report so maybe she can recommend where to stay, things to do etc.

    Hiya MrsShep2be

We went to Mexico on honeymoon and I can't stop raving about how awesome it was!

    My honeymoon report: https://www.hitched.co.uk/chat/forums/p/259465/2483360.aspx

I'd not heard of either of those hotels I don't think, but I know from the research we did that personally if I had £2,000 to spend i'd be looking at either The Royal in either Cancun, or Playa and i'd also be checking out the Sensatori hotel (both are 5* but, I think do-able in that price depending on when you travel etc).

I went to Mexico on holiday in 2009 and I can't rate it highly enough! We absolutely loved it, and I'd love to go back someday. We stayed at the BlueBay Grand Esmeralda which was just outside Playa Del Carmen, and I'd definitely go back to that area again. Obviously I can't help you with those hotel choices, but I have to say that everywhere we saw looked amazing!

We loved mexico when we went. We stayed at the Riu Tequila too and it was amazing. We paid about £1600 between us and it was for 2wks.

I'm just trying to persuade OH that we should book a cruise for our honeymoon.?

We have been twice to mexico and loved it that much we are thinking of going back for our hm. On the 1st trip we stayed on the riviera maya in the gran bahia principe akumal it was amazing and.was.in a complex of 3 hotels where golf carts bought you round the resort as it was so huge. Over 30 restaurants and 20 bars. On our 2nd visit we stayed at the riu cancun. This was also excellent if a little lively for a honeymoon (depends what you are looking for). This hotel was close to shops, bars and restaurants making it a good choice if.you get bored. Both trips cost under £1000 each. We went to cuba this year and was not a patch on mexico! We were so dissappointed!

We're going to Mexico! I wasn't keen at all at first but OH convinced me and now i'm so glad he did. Our hotel looks amazing. We are staying at The Grand at The Moon Palace in Cancun (it's a little out of the way though think its about 20 mins to the main centre so should get the best of both worlds - quiet but also able to go into the centre for bars/clubs a couple of times if we want to.) It wasn't TOO much more than your budget and we get resort credits to spend on trips etc too which will keep spending money to a minimum. I can't wait! Smiley smile

    Hey,

We are looking at mexico too, we have our heart set on river maya- el dorado seaside suites. I actually lol'd at your post as you sound exactly like us, we budgeted £2,500 but still don't know where it's coming from!!

We spoke to the travel agents though and most now do a "honeymoon fund" thing, so instead of the slip in your invites with your gift list you put a ref number for the travel agents and people can pay whatever they want to contribute. It might be an idea.

The thing we thought of was " if your honeymoon needs to be paid 12 weeks before you go, and you don't normally send invites until then then how does it work?" they said any money you had could convert to currency as spends or pay for excursions. Plus your close family and friends who you know will defo be at your day could go in sooner and contribute.

Gosh i wrote a lot there!! sorry!!!

    xxx

We went to Cancun and few years ago and stayed at the Riu Cancun. it was amazing and we loved the Riu hotels that much that we have booked to go the their hotel in Aruba.

Every room at the Riu Cancun over looks the beach. we did look at going to the el dorado suites but we decided we wanted to go somewhere we had never been before otherwise we would have booked to go back in a heart beat. Riu Cancun is near a place called coco bongos which is apparently an amazing night out (we never went i was happy drinking the AI cocktails in the hotel). Just check when spring break is because Cancun gets really busy with american students.

Us too! We have booked the seaside suites and it has cost an arm and a leg. This is from us saying no we won't bother, let's go to a little Greek island, nothing fancy, to just going ah what the hey, its going to be our only ever honeymoon and possibly last child free holiday! Hopefully we will get a bit of money given to us to spend while we are there.

Thank you for all your ideas, it has definutly proved I want to go to Mexico. Little Madam your report was wonderful thank you!!!

We have now decided to wait until April 2013 for the honeymoon as 1) it gives us longer to save and 2) Money (presents) will be able to be put towards a room upgrade and excursions.

I am very excited! Thank you all my lovelies xx

We went to Grand Sirenis in Riviera Maya. It was £2600 for both of for 2 weeks in July.

We absolutely loved it, all inclusive, great food, drink & people.

They are pools of water that are not man made, they are inside caves. Created by the rain water managing to enter through little holes in the limestone. The locals in some areas had carved stairs out of the limestone so you can enter. You can do diving etc in the caves.

My descriptions aren't great! you should google it. Looks gorgeous

    Hi

We are going to Mexico for our honeymoon on 2nd July for 2 weeks, it's all booked and paid for, we are staying at the Royal in Cancun, I cannot wait the hotel looks amazing. boo_2018, you are going just before me so I would love for you to give me a review when you get back.

One thing I did notice is that they seem to have hiked up the prices since I booked, we booked it in July this year and when I was checking the prices yesterday it would have cost me £1800 more with the exact same flight, hotel, upgrades etc.
