Midland Bride on a Budget...venue ideas needed!

Katianne, 3 December, 2012 at 16:38 Posted on Planning 0 10

Hi everyone Smiley smile

Can anyone recommend any Midland (Staffordshire / Shropshire / Derbyshire) venues that are in rural locations that offer weddings for couples on a low budget? I have been looking for months and thought I had found some really promising options, but after adding up the figures they still come out well over.

We are looking for something a bit different e.g. we have been looking at youth hostels or houses you can rent that have a wedding licence.

Our budget is 5k all in...is it possible to do what we want for this or do I need a reality check?

We would like:

The ceremony

Drinks to toast and canapés (if we can afford them).

Meal for 85 guests (we were thinking hog roast and then wedding cake for dessert)

2 glasses of wine per person (75 adults)

An evening buffet for all guests.

Band to play in the evening.

Our budget also needs to cover my dress, suits, rings etc...all the other bits!

Should I go home now...lol ?

It is possible to do as we are on abudget. Initially I wanted to aim for £5k but it is now at 6k but my parents are funding £3k for us and oh's parents have given me £500.

Friends of ours had found a youth hostel in the peak district where you can get maried a sthey had considered it.

Our venue is costing us £3k and for this we are getting the following:

Sit down 3 course meal for 60. 1/2 bottle of wine person, a glass of bubbly for the toast, room hire for the whole day, an evening buffet, a dj, a room for us to stay the night and 4 complemetary rooms for us to give to guests. Included in this we also get a taster evening, white linen, a cake stand and cake knife

Luckily oh's dad is a photographer so that is saving us a fortune. As wedding and reception is in one place no car is needed. I am making own invitations and cake. MIL2B is doing the table flowers.

We are getting married in Leicestershire.

Bands can be quite expensive but it maybe that you may find a band through local colleges or uni's.

You could look for a second hand dress if that would keep the costs down and search for people selling things cheap from their weddings.

I absolutely love https://avoncroft.org.uk. Some prices are on the website so maybe you can work it out from there. It is a stunning place to photograph too.

I'm afraid I don't know any local venues to you, but you can definitely do it all in for under £5k! You might have to compromise a bit, and it's worth sussing out what's important to you both now.

We're doing our wedding for under £6,500, and it could have been cheaper if we have shopped around a bit more.

Some thoughts for you to consider though:

    • Have your wedding on an off peak day
    • Look for a dress in sample sales/on preloved/on ebay. I got mine for £120 (was £800) from a woman's closing down sale. I'll need to have it altered but the seamstress won't be as expensive as the original dress.
    • Veil - pinkmargaret on ebay makes to order, and at a very reasonable price
    • Shoes - get shoes from somewhere like New Look, Debenhams etc in the sales. Mine are blue (my something blue) as I didn't like any 'bridal' ones, but they don't have to be bridal if you don't want them to.
    • Bridesmaids dresses - sales shopping or ebay. I'm toying with ebay at the moment, or possibly making my own for my sister.
    • Flowers - Interflora do a £250 package, and I'm sure other florists would be able to do something similar
    • Wine - look at corkage costs, and if they're reasonable, then look to use Tesco/Nectar points towards buying things like that. Also, take advantage of the offers throughout the year.
    • If you will need transport - can you blag transport from a friend/relative with a nice car? We're looking at hiring a normal executive car for it from somewhere like Enterprise/Europcar etc.
    • Photographer - this was important for us, but we found an excellent TOG for what we wanted. They're a disk package and we can by albums later if we want. Our TOG also does a budget package of ceremony only, but this wasn't for us.
    • Suits - hire/buy in the sales or wear one that he currently owns
    • Hair and make up - lots of the girls on here have had great results by going to the Benefit or MAC counters and getting a free trial, make up tips and buying the make up that way.
    • Vistaprint for invitations, save the dates etc - leave your items in your cart for a couple of days and you'll start getting discount emails through - it pays to wait.

I can't think of any more right now!

My friend has her wedding reception, just 2 years ago now! It was beautiful!!! Stunning place with lovely feel to it! We did consider it for our wedding too but we felt it a little too big for our day guest numbers.

We're going with quite an informal day, lots of flowers and probably some lawn games (croquet, french bowls) out in the grounds. I love it!

OP if you want to know more just ask me, I highly recommend the place!
