Midnight snacks??

tortoise, 27 August, 2012 at 11:49 Posted on Planning 0 10

Our venue will allow us to stay until 3am as long as we have at least 40 or 50 people in the room. I think this is quite likely to happen as most parties, both friends and family, go on until then-ish anyway. So I was thinking it might be nice to have some sort of midnight/going home snack.

Is this something anybody else has done and can recommend or not?

I don't want anything too big or expensive, but most people who will be coming are like me and get the munchies after a long day and drinking, so it would be nice to send them off with something. We're not allowed any outside catering and with people leaving at different times thiings like the crepe vans won't be any good. I doubt our venue will be willing to cook stuff we've brought (ie bacon sarnies) as this would surely come under 'outside catering'. It would also need to be prepared the night before, so does anyone have any ideas? We're having a sweetie buffet as well as a dessert with the meal and lots of scrummy cake, so I don't really want anything too sweet. Or do you think just bagging up some left over sweeties will be fine? Unless we run out Smiley atonished

The main thing I go for when I get in from a night out is toast!!

What about a little party bag style, some crisps/nuts, savory snack like sausage roll or something and little bottle or water or juice ?

Me and my MOH will quite often get pizza when we get home after a night out, could this be a possible as it can be cooked the night before and then eaten cold?

Hi! We literally went to a wedding yesterday, and had the catered evening food (bacon sarnies) at 9pm, followed by wedding cake and the sweety table, but at 11:30, someone came round with trays of pasties - cheese and onion - it was a lovely surprised and just what everyone fancied after lots of drink. It went down a storm! xxx

I'm glad people like the idea. When I was younger we used to go to a night club that served free toast at 1am Smiley smile it was amazing! I might email the venue and see if they'll allow it because everybody likes toast.

I like the sausage rolls/cheese pasty idea. Do you think people would mind them being cold?

Would pizza be ok not refrigerated? Obviously it would be at home, but it might have to be just kept in tupperware and travel with someone to the church and venue, then just hidden under a tabel or something so we don't get told off! Ha ha.

Definitely thinking of bottles of water though. Don't want everybody being too ill the next day! How good are cool bags and ice block things at keeping things cold all day? If it's kept closed it should stay nice and chilly surely?

Thanks for the help so far Smiley smile

Really like your idea Smiley smile

This is actually standard in Denmark - it's called 'natmad' (literally translated to 'night food') and I love the idea of it, my UK guests will be very pleasantly surprised, I think. Our venue is doing 'Ã¥rstidens suppe' (soup of the season) with homemade bread but the other packages, unfortunately out of our budget, had Danish style tapas.
