Migraine help please..

HanB, 17 August, 2009 at 22:45 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 3

Im pretty sure i suffered from a bad migraine last month. Now i seem to be getting the symptoms (although no where near as badly) again.

Last time it was totally out of the blue. I suddenly couldnt see at all out of one of my eyes and my face felt droopy (but i looked in the mirror and im sure it wasnt), was slurring my words, could barely move, had the worst pain in my head and then was very sick. I was also really confused, and then slept for nearly 2 days.

I have an appt for next monday to see my DR but is there any over the counter medicines i can try? I am only suffering with mild visual disturbances, but H has offered to go and buy something just incase it turns into the same as last time.

Any recs or tips would be really gratefully received.

Thank you

I suffer far too frequently with migraines, some of which have result in me being hospitalised. I get to the point where I can't open my eyes or communicate at all and quite literally think my head is going to explode.

But I've never had the droopy feeling that you're describing or the slurring of words. I do know that they effect different people differently though.

Definitely go and see your GP. If he does think that they are migraines they I would recommend Migraleve. If I catch a migraine early enough these work wonderfully for me (even though they are bright pink!)

Imigiran Recovery works wonders for me - you can buy it across the counter, but it is expensive at around £8 for 2 tablets. They should get you to complete a questionnaire and then give you a little card for future purchases. I get it on prescription now, so get 6 at a time. I'm now on a 1 a day preventative medication (in fact my follow up appointment is this afternoon), as I am getting them several times a months. Syndol sometimes helps too, as it makes me drowsy enough to sleep.

I started getting migraines when my heart medication was changed (never had them before, boy they are nasty aren't they?!). My doctor gave me migraleve to take, which worked really well. Changed heart medication again now, as they were causing daily migraines- you've not had a change in medication/diet that could have caused them to start? I'd see a doctor to be sure though.
