Miley Cyrus

Panjita, 11 November, 2013 at 12:29 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 29

Anyone else getting a bit bored of her nonsense now? I'll be honest, I've quite liked the last two songs she has released and I think all of this attention seeking cr@p is completely unnecessary.

also, ignoring the spliff aspect, WTF is shewearing?

I agree. Her music is good. She doesn't need all the other attention seeking nonsense.

I don't like her "music", and I don't like her OTT performances.

My SD liked her in Hannah Montanna, didn't like her in that either...

I feel a bit sad about her tbh. I think that she is trying too hard to shake off her Hannah Montana image but she's doing herself a massive disservice with her recent escapades.

If she was 16 I'd feel sad for her, but she's old enough now that this ridiculous attempt at attention seeking teenage rebellion is just a bit pathetic and desperate.

This is why I think it is unnecessary. Her records would sell whether she did this or not, because they are decent pop songs (IMO).

Most controversial moments in music history: Sinead O'Connor ripping up a picture of the Pope mid-song on Saturday Night Live. Jimi Hendrix ripping up his version of The Star Spangled Banner at Woodstock. Madonna snogging a black Jesus. NWA and Ice T glorifying, um, disobedience towards the police force.

Least controversial moments in music history: Disney pop princess Miley Cyrus lighting a fake doobie - tee hee - because she was in the Netherlands where pot is - giggle - like, legal, man.

I'm not a fan of her music, or her antics. She seems very immature for her age.

This. I also have no interest in her music whatsoever. She's just making a walley of herself.

She was getting to Number 1 before though wasn't she? I mean, before the Robin Thicke twerky thing and the spliff.

I think she was big in America as a teenager (I *think* she had a no1 in America with 'the climb' that joe from X factor sang over here)

But her new image/music videos (gyrating in a pair of yoga pants and swinging naked on a ball) plus the on off stage antics has launched her to global stardom.

Ermm that leotard looks painful. .its right up in her hoohaaa!! It looks like it chaffs. Apart from that she bores me between her and Rihanna I feel there isn't much more to see.

I'm with funky. Read loads of interviews with her recently and she is not a little girl lost going of the rails at all. Pretty clever kid using the media to her advantage.
Doesn't mean I like her music at all though

I don't really care what she does, she means nothing to me.

However, I wouldn't want any very young influential girls thinking that gyrating/twerking/prostituting themselves* on a public stage is acceptable behaviour. Sadly it's only ever going to get worse as each 'pop star' tries to out do their predecessor.

My 13yr old niece showed me the Wrecking Ball video. ?

*ok that may be a little extreme but I hope you get what I mean.

When she first started it all and shaved her head I thought 'ok fair dues- she wants to shake off the pretty preppy image'. I almost thought it was cool because she wasn't trying to do the conventional beauty thing... then the weird tongue stuff and twerking got a bit out of hand and I was disgusted with that weird photoshoot in the red leotard with suspicious stains...

So I started to feel sorry for her... but then she started to say a lot of immature things about mental illness re: Sinead O'Conner (who was trying to help her) and that just made me realise she is a spoilt brat who simply doesn't care about the effect she has on young impressionable people and is simply out there to make money. Its clearly working for her and she's getting all the publicity she doesn't need but clearly craves...

But I also have to add that I find Robin Thicke's blurred lines video and lyrics repulsive- I'm annoyed Miley had so much flack for embarrassing herself with the twerking when he gets away with objectifying women in the worst way...

This. Although she sounds very "together" in her interviews, I'm not convinced that it's not a very good front and that she actually is significantly unwell. If not, she's headed that way.

On the subject of Blurred Lines - when I was 16, someone I thought I knew grabbed me by the throat, push me against a wall and whispered these exact words in my ear "You're a good girl, I know you're a good girl. You want it." as he attempted to get his hand up my skirt. I got away luckily. I never reported him to the police because I was scared of getting in trouble for being in the place I was at the time it happened. So although I actually loved the song Blurred Lines when it first came out, I totally understand why people are disgusted by the lyrics having had those things said to me.

    Ah Miley.

I feel like I want to object to all the *slut-shaming* going around by Sinead, Annie Lennx etc.

All seems a tad hypocritcal to me. No one objects to Beiber constantly posting half naked photos of himself. Where are the open letters from Bono and Robbie Williams urging him not to sacrifice his soul on the altar of pop?

Why is it ok for Gaga to sing in her underwear, but not Miley? Why is it ok for Gaga to gyrate in a prison cell stimulating bondage with her fellow-female-felons but Miley is a a considered a glorified prostitute?

Is the distinction that Gaga writes her own music and is considered *creative* and Miley is considered manufactured pop? Is the issue that people see her as kid from her Hannah Montana days and so seeing her all sexed up makes everyone feel a tad uncomfortable?

I really like Gaga and have no feelings whatsoever on Miley, but I find all the general *miley is a prostitute* mock-outrage in the media a little hypocritical. If you (you general sense) find her antics morally dubious and undesirable, the same standards needs to be applied to Gaga, Rhianna and Madonna (back in the day), etc

The above is not aimed at anyone here, but her current media portrayal....

Can't quote on my phone, but clarehj I think for me I feel that (rightly or wrongly) Rihanna and Gaga etc are being who they are, obviously they want attention and to shock but I don't think that's what either of them are 100% about. I feel like Miley's behaviour is purely for attention and it isn't really her. I remember when Party in the USA came out there was a furore over the fact that the song referenced Jay-Z when Miley admitted she'd never even heard a Jay-Z song before. As a white girl I had never heard of twerking before and I bet Miley hadn't either when she clearly isn't into hip hop or hip hop culture. She is just trying to be and do whatever she thinks will get her the most attention.

Ps I think it's too easy to call it slut shaming. Is riding naked on a wrecking ball and licking sledgehammers really an expression of female sexuality?

I think the biggest shame is that having listened to Miley's Live Lounge yesterday, she is such a fantastic singer, yet that never even gets mentioned. If you haven't heard it, go and have a listen, her voice is actually awesome!

Also, with regard to Rhianna and Gaga, I get a little bit bored with their antics too if I am honest. Their music on the other hand, I like.

I agree with Footlong (Miley is not contraversial) and I also agree with Funky - she is a very clever girl/has very clever management.

FWIW, I loved We Cant Stop and Wrecking Ball.

I agree that she does actually have a nice voice. The live lounge was very good, but the singles make her sound quite nasally and annoying.

In my cabbage, she is on a par with Rihanna. I don't much like either of them because of their antics, but they are two of the most well known and famous women on the planet.
