Miley Cyrus /VMA

Did we have a thread on this?

ive seen lots of daily fail articles etc on this. To me, whilst not necessarily wholesome viewing for young fans etc, part of me thinks its just one of those things that some young girls do? Hand on heart, I would have done the same in a club or something (probably not in that outfit, I don't think I could pull it off - plus I tried on a latex dress once and it made me smell like a giant condom!)

As I say, maybe not on a TV show, but that aside, I have no issues.

Anyone else?

(oh, the wink/stick out tongue thing annoys me, but that seems to be her 'thing')

I think one of the problems is she was in a show aimed squarely at children (ie under 10s).

It's all just a bit attention seeking to me

I think it is sad that when a woman expresses sexuality she is treated like a slut but when a man does it, it is acceptable.

A friend pointed me to this article which highlighted problems with the performance:

However I haven't seen it as I'm not interested either way.

I've seen it and felt uncomfortable just because she appeared to be trying to be sexy but it was just awkward and way too try hard.

Isn't it traditional to do something contreversal (headlune grabbing) at the VMA? thuink Madge, Britney, Christina!

I think most papers have moved on , its just the daily fail that have still got her nickers in a twist! the girl cant be sweet innocemt hannah montsnnah gorever, she is trying very hard to show that to the world!!

I don't care about the sexual dancing etc. - it's the tongue sticking out, her hair (she used to be so pretty ☹️) and the twerking that make me want to bang my head against the wall!

Soooo you have to have long hair and a media styled image to be pretty? For me, she looks better now. Her routine was just typical attention seeking of the type typically seen at the VMA's, as someone else said. There's still someone managing all of her appearences and her image. It'll all be part of a grand plan, sadly for her. I just hope she doesn't go the way of other child slebs before her.

I haven't seen the VMAs stuff but obviously heard about it and wrote it off as trying to be the total opposite of her Hannah Montana past etc and everyone seems to do something controversial at the VMAs. I Love her hair now - I think it looks fantastic on her!

I don't really know what to make of it, other than thinking the whole thing was ridiculous and vile. Mainly because she is obviously just a puppet and you know that it was a white man that came up with that image and routine.

I think there's something wrong when she's completely slated but Robin Thicke (a married man with a child) isn't. He would hardly have been unaware of what she was going to do. Saying that it was a horrible performance.

The sexual nature of it wasn't what bothered me - I just think she looked deranged. As in, in need of some psychiatric help.

I've seen this - people slating HER for doing all that to him. So a married man is singing a very sexualised song and grinding up against a girl 16 years his junior who quite possibly has significant mental health/substance abuse issues, and that's all HER FAULT?!

The whole thing was bizarre and very uncomfortable. I have serious concerns about her mental wellbeing - she seems to be going down the same road as Drew Barrymore, Britney, Lindsay Lohan etc. I actually think she looks pretty good with the short hair, though I wish she'd put her f***ing tongue away! The singing wasn't great and the dancing was mostly wooden and in parts just bizarre (who on earth thought that bit with the foam finger was a good idea?!) and I doubt very much it was all her idea. I'm not sure I have that much sympathy for either the "that was so inappropriate on a kids show" argument or the "how dare she do black people dancing?" ones, I just worry about what's going to happen to her.

Curiosity finally won me over last night and I found the performance on youtube, I also watched the video for her song cant stop us, or cant stop me. I was quite disturbed by the very overt sexual nature of both. Now that maybe in part because I listen to very little "modern" pop music. Although to be honest the song itself I quite liked the lyrics it was just the video that I found awful to be honest.

I do also like her hair as it is now, but the clothing/dancing and that tongue thing! why why why.

I'm 32 and watching this last night made me feel very very old and prudish.

Putting words in my mouth there? She is a train wreck now, it is not because her hair is short - the picture was just to show how she never used to do the whole tongue thing and acted normal.

I don't dislike her anymore than I hate Rihanna, Beyoncé, Pussycat dolls etc. I don't see what the fuss is all about as we see it everyday from loads of these pop stars, maybe just as she's starting to go down that worse path but they all do it eventually and I don't think any of them are good role models but it's up to people what they let their kids watch.
What bothered me was her trying to be sexy and failing badly, her mouth was doing my head in sticking her tongue out & smiling..looked ridiculous haha.

I've just caught a brief clip and I really didn't think it was that bad. Does that make me awful? I do think she was as high as a kite though, and maybe she needed to be to do something so out of her ordinary. That's a slippery slope right there

I do think she used to be prettier but all of the pictures from before she will have had longer hair, its more about her image before and now, wearing skimpy outfits etc. I don't think it suits her. I've not seen the VMAs but I don't think the performance would have been all her. As someone else said all the blame has been on her, there would have been someone designing the costumes and set. I think she's on a very slippery slope.

Personally I think she does look prettier with long hair but that's not to say to be pretty you have to have long hair.

Having just come back from Jamaica, where the ancient art of twerking, was actively encouraged and taught in weekly dance lesson. I can't see the problem.

As for the shaven head, , does that make me a lesser person? Bad role model to the hundreds of children that I have worked with over the years?

The fact she's now done an interview saying how messed up she is, makes me think something is wrong too.

I didn't see an issue with her performance TBH. It was her, PERFORMING. So, doing her job...

Saying that, if my 9 year old daughter decided to copy her, I wouldn't be impressed.

I didnt bother me as all these young stars from kids are going to do something like this to prove they are women now however the sticking the tongue out annoyed me and she was trying to hard to be sexy that it went to opposite for me. Also when she had the glove on between her legs - i mean thats just trying to get a reaction! Which it obv worked...
