Water first then add milk when i've taken the teabag out to see how weak/strong I want it.

My parents have always put milk in first.

Water first, teabag out then milk.

I think the 'proper' way is milk first though.

Water first then squeeze the tea bag, then add milk.

My mum makes it milk first and it takes aaaaages for the water to filter through the tea bag. As often as not I've been handed a cup of hot watery milk!?

I don't drink the stuff but I've been told that milk should be added last when making tea as the tea needs boiling water to brew properly. Coffee, on the other hand, should have milk added first, as boiling water is too hot and the milk makes it cooler.

If the tea is for you, then make it as you prefer. If its for someone else and they are complaining, then tell them to make their own!

Milk last - its easier to adjust the strength that way.

Although there are several legends relating the order to class - milk first being usually associated with lower social standing.

My mantra is milk and teabag should never mmeet.

So, if i am making it in the teapot, the milk goes in the cup, and brewed tea goes in on top. If i am making it in the cup I wait until i remove the tea bag before adding the milk.

Milk first if pouring from a teapot. If just making one cup, water first, then leave to stew for a good couple of minutes, squeeze the bag, add milk as required, remove the bag.

If making just one cup then definitely water first, remove bag and then milk

If pouring from a teapot I want to say milk first as that was what my mum/nana taught me, but I always find I misjudge the amount of milk if I do that and my tea ends up too milky so in practice I usually do milk last

I don't drink tea, but for 'normal' amount of milk people I always do water first, milk last.

My father takes a tiny amount of milk (just enough to cover the bottom of the cup) so I always do his milk first as its easier to measure.

If i've made a pot then milk first in the cup, if it's in a mug (which is more often than not in the house) then milk last.

The whole milk first thing is to cool the tea a little as it is poured so that the bone china doesn't crack.

This is what I do. My husband, however, pours the milk on top of the teabag in the cup, and thinks I'm being fussy if I complain. He doesn't drink tea so doesn't realise it tastes different.

I dont use bags, only real tea so if I am making it straight in the cup with my little strainer thingy the milk goes in afterwards, but if I am pouring from a pot teh milk goes in first.

I am quirky to the extent of wierd when it comes to making tea, my OCD tendencies come to the fore and I have to make it a certain way like a little tea making ceremony.

I remember hearing that people of lower social standing (who could only afford earthenware cups) put milk in first to protect the cup. If they put in water first, the cup would be at risk of cracking. People of higher social standing would put water in first, as they had proper china mugs - which could stand the heat of the water.

Personally, water & tea-bag in first, followed by milk. Might get myself a cuppa now, actually.

I generally prefer to mix the tea and the milk in the cup. Drinking straight from the pot is usually frowned upon in polite company.

This is how i make a tea in a cup

teabag and sugar (if required) -

pour the water getting the necessary strength by leaving tea bag in or squeezing

    then add milk as desired

Coffee is made like this -

granules, milk and suger (again if required)

then pour the boiling water in

    Voila!
