Minced Beef ideas

Little Pixie , 12 April, 2012 at 14:45 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 13

Got mince out ready for tea but have no inspiration as to what to do with it. Don't want the usual chilli, spag bol, cottage pie. Any ideas?

    Moussaka?

Mix with chopped tomatoes and onions as a normal lasagne type base in a dish, then add slightly fried aubergine layers, then smother with a mixture of 1 egg mixed with a tub of garlic and herb philly, lemon juice, olive oil, and plain yoghurt. Bake for half hour and serve with greek feta salad or chips ? x

What about making meatballs or burgers with them?

I make a mince dish sometimes (had forgotten about it for about two years, until this thread) where you basically just make savoury mince, but then...wait for it...stir a tin of baked beans through it! A-MA-ZING! Don't knock it til you've tried it! ?

I used to do this before I became veggie and add chopped bacon into it. For some reason it was called "Cowboy's Casserole".

Top with roasted butternut squash and/or sweet potato and a sprinkle of parmesan cheese and chuck in oven until top goes crispy. OH loves it.

I know I'm a bit late with my suggestion but how about Chinese Lettuce Leaf Wraps -

1 iceberg lettuce - de-leafed, keeping them whole, washed and dried

1 pack of mince meat (you can do this with shredded meat / tofu too)

A few garlic cloves / a small onion - plus any finely chopped veg suitable for stir frying i.e. mushrooms, peppers etc

Soya sauce / oyster sauce / hoi sin sauce / chilli sauce / whatever Chinesey sauce you have in the cupboard

Basically, fry the garlic in some oil, then whack in onions (if using them), then add your mince and other veg, put in a few glugs of soya sauce / whatever sauce. Fry until the mince is cooked.

To serve - take your lettuce leaf and dollop some mince in it, wrap AND ENJOY!!! It's like a healthy taco / fajita with a Chinese spin - you can improvise with your ingredients and top your wrap with additional sauces, shredded spring onion etc.
