Mini Moon ideas please

Smithette2b, 25 January, 2014 at 11:55 Posted on Planning 0 13

We're getting married on 1st November and we want to go away for a few days somewhere. We're not having a proper honeymoon as such because we don't want to leave our son for long, I've only ever left him for 1 night!

H2B proposed in Disney world Florida on 6th November last year so I like the idea of saving up and going back for our 1 year wedding anniversay! I'd like to go for 3 weeks so that we can go somewhere like miami for a few days on our own! My mum will come too by the way, we don#t intend to leave our son alone, lol!

Anyway, ive just rambled, any mini moon ideas?

Thanks ?

my friends did their wedding on a 1K budget which left nothing for a honeymoon but they managed to get 3 cheap night's at a travelodge in Bath and headed there for a minimoon. They took food with them so they only ate out twice and they signed up for free guided tours of the city. They were national trust member so got in to prior park gardens for free. They filled their days making inexpensive memories of the start of their married lives and they both speak so highly of the time away. A mutual friend sniffed haughtily of the travelodge but as my friend pointed out to her- it was only a base, the honeymoon was her hubbie and the activities, not her hotel.

in a similar vein mr winter and i took our children on a mini-breka last year and it would have been perfectly suitable as a mini-moon.

We stayed, rather UNromantically, in Slough Smiley atonished but believe it or not, it was amazing. The hotel was clean, well presented, polite staff, warm, comfortable and reasonably priced. No we didn't have a view, but we didn't much stay in the hotel. We spent each day popping into Windsor, and what a lovely spot it was! We had the cubs with us, yet still it was so lovely there it managed to be romantic. We partook in some activities which would be most suitable for a honeymoon/mini-moon, and they came in either cheaply or reasonably priced. and most importantly, we made some incredible memories. for a short getaway break, which was just meant to relax us, we've come away having had a really amazing time. one of my favourite holidays we've had!

so with this in mind, i just wanted to recommend Windsor as a UK honeymoon/mini-moon suggestion for all you b2b's. Bustling when you need it to be, historic, picturesque and perfect when you want it to be. I've detailed some of our activities and their costings below, so you can see how reasonable it can be. In my opinion, you really can make memories worthy of a honeymoon there.

    hope the info helps someone!

5 nights premier inn slough- £246
    windsor castle- £35.50
    adventure golf- £11
2 hr river thames cruise- £18
horse drawn carriage windsor great park- £40
open top bus tour of windsor and eton- £24

    TOTAL £374

    HTH some Smiley smile

We're hoping to have a mini-moon and have decided to spend a few days in Bath. I've always wanted to go and love historical things and OH doesn't really mind where we go (although he did mention seeing if the rugby was on while we're there!). Looks like a beautiful place and I'm really excited about it. Just be nice for me and the Mr to get away for a few days on our own (which is rare as it's normally family visits when we go away).

We also thought about the Isle of Wight (but living in Portsmouth it seemed a bit too local), Bournemouth, Edinburgh (as e both loved it last time we were there but did not get enough time for site seeing), London (too expensive) and Wales.

We do a mini holiday every year for DS birthdaywe usually spend £100 - £150 on everything (hotel, food, attraction etc...) for 3 to 5 days

travelodges are always cheep and good value also sometimes renting a place can be cheap but its hard work finding them (we got an apartment in Blackpool at peak season once for £60 for 2 nights)

camping is always cheep too if you like outdoors thing

groupon always has cheap breaks on too (avoid pontons or best western though, ive made those mistakes before - sometimes cheap is cheap for a reason)

our recent birthday trip (although not romantic was):

    2 adulds + 1 child in scarborough

hotel = £36 for 2 nights (huge building with perfect sea views)

pizza hut = £20 (buffet deal)

    bowling = £14

    amusements arcades = £10 over 3 days

    flamingo land entry = £27

    MacDonalds x2 = £17

    Franky and Bennie = £20

    go karts = £5

    air hockey torniment = £5

I love Paris! Some amazing appartments you can rent, we got one through www.homeaway.co.uk but loads of places on there not just Paris, uk too.

If you want to stay uk bound the Lake District is fab! Some stunning romantic cottages there!

I'm doing the exact same thing! Mini moon here in the UK then first year anniversary will be 3 weeks in Florida!

we're getting married in Northumberland and are staying for a week after in a gorgeous old converted paper mill. We booked through www.countryretreats.co.uk and they also have coastal properties at www.coastalretreats.co.uk - honestly their properties are amazing and so beautifully decorated. You would be in low season in November too so much cheaper! It's costing us £525 for 7nights but they also do 3 or 4 night breaks.

If you were thinking of abroad Cologne is lovely; very quick flight and 4 days was enough for us. The cathedral is lovely; there are a few museums (Farina House was brilliant!), a spa which was brilliant value and a zoo with a nearby sculpture park which made a fantastic day out. We went to the Maldives last year, where we got engaged, which was so good but actually have just as fond memories of Cologne!

I would recommend groupon as well, they have so many cheap UK breaks. I think we are gonna have a mini moon for a couple of days as we don't go on holiday until 5 weeks after the wedding. We are getting married in NE Scotland and live in Oxford so I'm hoping we will find somewhere on groupon that isn't too out of the way on the drive back :-)

Look at leycroft valley in cornwall, it's where we got engaged and it's fabulous. Really private cabins with hot tubs on the balcony and reasonable prices in November too! Highly reccomend!
