Minimoon -v- Honeymoon

navychick, 26 February, 2011 at 18:36 Posted on Planning 0 5

In a dilemma (again!)

Sorted out the issue with gift list with invites, now we have the issue of whether to go on honeymoon directly after the wedding or a minimoon for a few days (in the UK) then go on honeymoon some time next year when we're not so restricted with dates, and perhaps get a better deal.

I was planning on using my Tesco Rewards for the minimoon, but even then the hotel can be quite pricey, fuel and food/drinks costs all add up, so we're still looking at spending approx £300. So we're dithering whether to just go away for 1 week, perhaps All Inc. to somewhere like Rhodes, Crete or Malta with a budget of £1,500 and see what's the best we can get for our money. But even then we're undecided on the destination.

We just keep going round in circles, one day we've decided on a minimoon, the next we say "but it would be lovely to spend some time in the sun and have a honeymoon after we're married, rather than wait until next yr"

What's everyone else doing? Any ideas/inspiration?

We are doing a minimoon in Rome- our fave city - for four days but only because my OH will move back to the Middle East a week after the wedding and I fly out to join him a week after that! We are then going to have our honeymoon in the sun next year as an anniversary present too. So getting the best of both! However, we are finding the minimoon is costing as much and sometimes more than a week in the sun!!

I'm glad we're starting to think about it now with still over a year to go as we're the same and want to do one thing one minute and another the next. OH really wants to do a caribbean cruise straight after the wedding but I wanted to wait until Christmas and do it then and get some sun in the winter and have a mini moon after the wedding somewhere nearer to home.

When my friend got married last year they didn't want to do something too far as her little boy had just turned one. They got a really good deal on an all inclusive 5 star hotel in Turkey and they said it was gorgeous. Maybe you could do something like that straight after the wedding as sometimes mini moon destinations, even in the UK, can costs just as much and then go somewhere next year as well.

We are doing a minimoon to some where like morroco as it will still be hot at the end of September, for 3 days you can go for about £300 each and then honeymoon in Jan/Feb time to Thailand or the Carribean as we are asking for money for the wedding gifts and want to be bale to know what we have before we book a holiday if that makes sense?

We were going to mini moon and then spend a while saving up for a luxury honeymoon, but it worked out as really dear in August to go anywhere we liked. So decided just to go for it and hope that our guests understand it will be on our giftlist instead of lots of kettle and cutlery sets!
