Mismatch

Morwin_Nerdbane, 10 August, 2013 at 19:38 Posted on Planning 0 3

The world of internet shopping has proved too tempting for this over enthusiastic bride-to-be.

I bought a pair of beautiful shoes that I love, advertised as ivory but are actually 'bone'. I have also bought a dress that I love that is on the whiter side of ivory. The styles match well enough but the whiteness of the dress really accentuates the off-whiteness of the shoes, which makes them look a bit dirty. The dress comes to just below my knees, hence the problem.

I have considered buying a sash for the dress in 'bone' colours, in an attempt to pull the 2 pieces together, maybe something for my hair too. However, I'm not sure if this will result in a bit of a patchwork outfit. Should I just write off the shoes, or is there a clever bridey way that I can wear both the shoes and the dress that I love?

I know this isn't the most horrific problem in the world, but I'd really appreciate any feedback.

Maybe get the shoes dyed? If they're a fabric covered type shoe and not scotch guarded that is. My bridesmaids shoes were a pale silver and we got them dyed to a gun metal colour for £25. Perfect match too. If you have another colour in your theme or flowers you can match to? Could look really striking.

How do will I know if they're dyable and where did you go to get them done? Sorry, I know very VERY little about fashion DIY.

The shop I got our bridesmaid dress from recommended a hat and accessory shop that dyes shoes, so I'd say either ask your shop if they know anywhere or a google search would bring something up. I then called them and told them the make of shoe to check if it was possible. They knew the make so also knew it was dyable (I'd never heard of the make but im also a fashion numpty too so don't worry!). I brought along a strap from the bridesmaid dress for them to match to, they then made up a dye the following week and dyed a similar fabric and got me to approve the colour. The next week the shoes were done. Very impressed.
