MissD2016 - Introduction :)

MissD2016, 1 September, 2016 at 18:26 Posted on Planning 0 4

Hello all Smiley smile

Since this is my first post, let me introduce myself - I'm MissD, mid-20's, based in Hertfordshire.

Not yet engaged - but hopefully soon! I've been with by partner (MrD) for almost 6 years and we're finally at the stage where we can start thinking about a wedding! eeeeek!

We've been to look at engagement rings and a couple of venues, but so far it's been very casual. Without a ring on my finger I suppose we're not technically considered 'engaged', but we're pretty much there!

The plan is to get engaged early next year and tie the knot in summer 2019. MrD has pleasantly surprised me...he's been so open to talking about it and planning it together.

We will be looking at venues in Herts/Beds/Bucks/Cambs, but the budget has not been decided yet. Waiting until 2019 gives us plenty of time to save, so we could potentially afford a budget of around £20k (absolute max for everything, unless family offer any contributions).

Any other brides out there that started planning before the engagement? Would love any tips!

Thanks,

MissD xx

Hi welcome to hitched and congratulations on your soon to be engagement. I think my advise would be save save save, look around and scour pinterest and what everyone else is up to on Hitched buy don't make many firm decisions. You could change your mind lots of times about the sort of wedding you think you want in your time span. I only had 8 months and completely changed my mind on dress (ended up with 2) and bought quite a few things I didn't need or use. Enjoy your pinning and planning. ?

Hi MissD, welcome to Hitched - exciting times Smiley smile

Pintrest was/still is my best friend - I was planning about 3 different weddings before we got engaged when I look at everything I've pinned. I've now got a general wedding board and one for our actual wedding. Our date (June) ruled out lots of my ideas (autumnal). My advice would be to pin/look at everything that takes your fancy but don't book/buy anything until you're 100% sure.

Happy planning, and look forward to hearing about your engagement xx

Totally the same as Jayne E, even in 2 months of planning my mind has changed so much. The first dress I fell in love with online hasn't been launched yet and I was gutted as time is ticking. After trying on dozens, I look back at the first one and it is a millions miles from what I would choose now! You are lucky to have lots of time on your side. Smiley smile

Welcome to Hitched! You have lots of time to think about the type of wedding you want and which venue will work with the type of wedding you are after. I agree with the others though...planning is great, pinterest is amazing but don't buy anything yet as your ideas and likes might change over time.
